I think in the 50s and 60s, an Indian passport holder could enter the UK based on holding a commonwealth passport. Wonder why that policy changed? ;)

Can it get any worse for LEGALS in this country than what it is Mr Tancredo? Any attempt by you will only get things better as we are at the bottom as it relates to LEGAL Immigrant miseries.
Tancredo introduces an immigration bill every week. Its like newsletter for him. There is nothing new here. No one listens to him. Not even the Republicans. If he was take seriously, then H.R. 4437 (109th congress) would be called "Tancredo Bill" not "Sensenbrenner Bill".
Tom Tancredo not only has 0 clout with Republicans, he has lost clout with a caucus he found. HIRC (House immigration reform caucus) was founded by Tom Tancredo. He is not a chairman of that Caucus anymore. I think its some other guy, probably Lamar Smith of Texas.
Stop the panic attacks everytime someone like Tancredo, Sensenbrenner and Sessions say "Boo !".

This is a very good point ,if illegal under guest worker program can pursue a path to a citizenship after 6yrs provided that they can show they have paid taxes, learn English and pass background check...Why can't we ask the same for us, we have entered US legally without breaking any law, are paying taxes and are highly educated let aside learn English. And the senators have agreed about getting in line or behind the line (First in first out) approach for getting Citizenship, we are just asking for GC ;) ?

Very interesting flower, great colors and shapes. I don't have a suggestion for the DOF problem, but I think this is a case where the flower is so unique I'm not thinking of the technicalities very much. I like the second picture, but it'd be great to pair it with an "overview" shot to understand how the whole flower/plant looks.

Do any equipment savy forum members have any views on the Nikon Nikkor 28-200mm f/3.5 - 5.6D IF AF Zoom lens positive, negitive or otherwise? Target camera will be my D70. Thanks in advance.On 1.5x sensor, the 28mm becomes 42mm 35mm-camera equivalent. That's definitely not wide enough. To me, attaching a wide-range and large lens to my camera, and carrying it in hiking, rain forest, desert, etc is not preferred unless you packed inside the backpack and take it out only when taking pictures. Then I would prefer two lenses, something of 18-35mm, and 70-200mm. That's was my Nikon days for 25+ years prior to changing over to canon one month ago.

According to one website http://www.immigration-law.com the USCIS is working on trying to streamline processing I-140 petitions to four months by April 2009. I quote the following from the website

The only issue is that in the interim we still have the threat to jobs in this bad economy. The other concern of mine is that older petitions might get dumped into another Backlog Elimination Center and they only work efficiently on newer I-140 petitions. That solution would be hell for people with older I-140 applications

I also got a Status Update message via email from USCIS. I think the lawyer will be getting the papers in mail next week.
Seems like USCIS has started sending RFE for a lot of us, who have been waiting for a long time. What might be the reason for this. I heard from some of my friends that they are pre-adjucating the cases so that when the visa dates are available, they can process faster, but I also wonder if they are doing it so that they can drop some cases who do NOT reply to their RFE (similar to what happenned with Backlog Elimination Center and 45 day letters).

They HAVE TO pay the salary mentioned in your LCA. If not, you can drag them to DOL but you will risk your job and H1B status. I suggest, find another employer, transfer your H! and then kick their a$$. We have suffered enough at the hand of blood sucking desi "consultants".

by saying this, you are belittling the people who do call center jobs in india.
speaking without a thick indian accent can be great for your career..because, while communication skills may not be important to be a programmer, it does get important when you are speaking in a meeting, or giving a presentation .
having said that, i would ask the admins to delete this thread. This is just advertising. Im sure all of us can google ways to improve our communication skills/improve english/speak in american accent or whatever it is we want to do.

Either you can enrich your skills by joining some short term courses or do small work (like teaching kids/ day care/ dance classes/ singing etc) where in you can earn CASH .................. I am not sure of your background so cannot comment on choices that you have.

I had my interview on the 30th and my passport has not been delivered yet. The VFS website says that the passport has not been handed over to them as of today. I was not given any 221g slip/form and the VO told me that i should be getting my PP in 5 days, it's been a week now and VFS hasn't got the PP yet. Is there something i should be worried about? I have my return ticket booked for next weekend and i am getting a bit nervous about the whole scenario. Does anyone know if there is any other way to get in touch with the New Delhi consulate?

We were exactly in the same situation few months ago. We were told that our visas have been issued and we will get our passports within 5-7 days (no 221g at the time of the interview). After 5 days when we contacted VFS they said wait upto 7 business days. I waited and then they gave me the number of the embassy. When we contacted embassy they said that an email has been sent to me asking more documents but we did not get any emails. We asked them to resend and after 3 days of our request we got their email with a soft copy of 221g(green).
We wish that similar thing may not happen with anyone as we know the tension of going thru it.
I would suggest that you call Embassy instead of calling VFS to get the real status. VFS will just tell if they got the passport or not. They can not tell you the reason.
