ahhh,ok.misunderstood..You bring up a good point..I think if more Windows users realize that you can run XP natively on Macs now, they may be more likely to switch knowing that they still have their "security" blanket..

I installed the new version last night, sync'd my contacts... What that did was put profile pictures and facebook page links to any friends I had in my addressbook.... The addresses migrated and sync'd no problem but the app itself is crashing so much that i had to delete it, reinstalled the old version from my computer and everything is back to normal on my phone within the facebook app... The page links still connect directly to friends facebook pages directly from my addressbook... I would wait to upgrade until they fix all the problems... Oh yeah the links do not work from addressbook on your mac, only within the iphone and from that addressbook

I remember reading either here or on Appleinsider that if this goes well enough, they can use this chip to replace batteries. The thing with that is, if we take away the battery, where does the original power come from?
From a heat source such as a butane flame or other combustion.
We're talking two different applications here
1) recover some waste heat from the CPU back to electricity
2) generate electricity by applying a much higher heat source to one side of the thing - as a potential replacemenmt for batteries, fuel cells, etc.

No PowerPC version? Ouch. Lets hope that's not a growing trend for all you golden oldies out there :p
Yeah, I knew this was inevitable. (I'm running a 1.25 GHz G4 iMac.) That being said, for the applications I use (and this won't be one of them), I honestly don't see myself being forced to buy an Intel machine for a loooong time. Just because Adobe has decided to rpoceed in this manner doesn't mean other companies will follow suit. And you can bet that Apple definitely won't, at least not for a few more years. Heck, Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;)

How beautiful would that be for Time Machine, particularly in a laptop?
Wow, hadn't even thought about that... That would be so nice. :o

Well. It was nice, for once, to see the Democrats win the bulk of the outstanding issues.
Of course, just around the corner are potentially even bigger arguments about the debt limit and the next budget.
I can't wait.

LOL @ Chuck Norris kicking an oncoming car in the face. Classic.
Like I mentioned in the first post on this possibility earlier today, I hope they implement this in a way that I can find things. Like tagging my keys or books. I'm always losing crap.

winclone hasn't been updated in a while but could still work for you.
however, also have a look @ Casper (http://www.fssdev.com/).
I know about the WinClone part, but how would one run Casper when restoring the Windows partition?
It says the following on its website:
Casper provides a near-instant recovery capability by creating a fully bootable backup of a Windows system drive, including a backup that can boot and run directly from an external USB drive.
Requires computer with BIOS support for booting from USB hard disk drive (USB-HDD) devices. Not all computers support booting and running from USB hard disk drive type devices.
Does that mean, a backup via those means could be booted from an external HDD connected to a Mac?

I doubt very much Macbook is getting updates at the same time Pro Models do. Thats not how Apple operates. First the pro models will be updated then that tech will show up months later in Macbook with some crippling like in Gpu.
Exactly! That's why the iMacs didn't get the Intel procssors until 7 months after the Mac Pros, right?

Makes one wonder what the markup on the DVDs are at the 'discount' stores...I am sure that they do not get the same profit from an iTunes card as the movie so it is just about $$$ as everything is.

Apple never said they removed the BL KB because it is a luxury feature. In fact, none of us knows why Apple removed it.
You right. But that's a very common theory here on these threads. I use that analogy to suggest how ridiculous that would be if Apple really did remove it to 'differentiate' the product lines.

Another event, yet another disappointment.
Personally all I wanted was iLife integration and from the looks of things I got that. Everything else is just a welcomed bonus.

I just called a store in my area. They have 32 and 64GB but they said they can overnight ship me one with 16GB capacity!
Then I realized I am still not sure whether I really need one!!!

I have heard of Folding@home at it sounds interesting. I like the idea of helping scientists with their experiments.
Unfortunately I have two problems with this.
1) Ultimately where does all this research go? Who is benefitting from it all? I can't help but think that all this research will just enable some multi-billion dollar drug company to come up with some pill that they can patent and make billions of more dollars. I tried reading the faqs of Folding@home, but it does not really say where all this research is going. I am sure the scientists mean well with their research, but ultimately they will not be the ones creating the drugs to cure these diseases. Drug companies will be doing that, and they are strictly profit oriented.
2) My electricity prices are going up by about 10% so I really don't like the idea of my iMac running 24-7 eating up electricity, and adding to the wear and tear of my system. I'm not sure what the monthly cost would be running Folding@home, but I'm sure it adds up.
Can anyone here comment on these concerns?

Well, I'd like to get my hands on a DS, but cash is a bit tight. I'm hoping someone would be interested a trade for (or buy outright) a nice, older, PC.
- P3-1ghz,
- 256mb RAM,
- 10gb HDD (I can most likely dig up another 10-20gb HDD to add),
- CD-ROM (I have a CD-RW drive of unknown speed/quality I can include as well),
- NVidia TNT2 GPU,
- network card, modem, keyboard, mouse.
- I have a 19" CRT that I haven't used in awhile for someone local (in the Lansing, MI area).
- Has Win98, Office 97, and some other software if you want it (Visual -Basic, some older PC games), with licenses of course.
- Could also install pretty much any Linux variant for ya, if you wanted. I have Ubuntu on there right now.
- I would be happy to include a joystick (uses the old fashioned "game port") and/or a USB gamepad.
Figured it was worth a shot. :) Anyone who would be interested in CDs, VHS tapes, comic books (decent collection, including the full Superman Doomsday series), or some Star Wars "memorabilia" (toys still in packaging from the mid-90's re-release of the first 3 movies) in trade should PM for a list of those things as well!

Picked up a 32 gig last night for $399. I had a choice between a 16 gig and the 32 gig. Those were the only two they had left in inventory. I figured since I'm going to be using this for quite a while, I'd go ahead and get the 32. I was glad they had a couple left. :D

The RFID chip will be a close range chip only. I had one in my Japanese cell phone when I lived there. It was called SUICA in the Tokyo area (its called different things else where in Japan). There was also a card just for riding the train by the same name. Regardless, it was awesome to have because Japanese ATMs aren't alway 24 hours, might banks closed at 9pm for example and that country isn't really into credit cards. So I always kept between 2000 to 10000 yen on it ($20-$100 USD), that way I could always grab a train home, get a drink or a snack if I needed it. Any place within a 10 walk of the station took the it, including vending machines.
It was really really handy! got me home the one time I lost my wallet!:)
I welcome it
