The End of Mankind Is Nigh

An Australian scientist Frank Fenner has predicted that Man will be extinct by the end of the century. We probably won't believe that because many have been foretelling the end of Mankind for hundreds of years. Professor James Lovelock of the Gaia theory that actually contradicts this hypothesis said the same recently. Mr Lovelock said the Earth will become so hot that only a handful of humans will be able to live at the poles.

But think of all those bunkers, some still there, built during the missile crisis of the twentieth century. Running for the hills now is not the rational thing to do, though a few may choose to do so. It would be silly to write Mankind off so easily. Mankind is very resilient. If the climate changes we will adapt to new conditions. After all, the whole present day human family descended from just a few hundred survivors in Africa many moons ago.

The human response to such an apocalyptic scenario is to do nothing until the crisis occurs. Then coping mechanisms will kick in. We will become nasty to each other, as in the past, and there will be winners in a dog eat dog situation.
