The state of Israel is acting in an aggressive manner toward Palestinians. In a way, Westerners expect this and to a large degree tolerate it. We have a sympathy towards Jews in general and Israel in particular. This feeling of forgiving goes way beyond the persecution of Jews by Hitler. While European states have hit out at Jews in their midst in centuries passed, the ordinary person felt that they were being wronged. If anything they were the first minority to be pitied by those around them. But can Israel's blatant use of force be accepted in the modern world where justice must be seen to be done?
Before Jews returned to their "homeland" after WWII, Palestinians lived peacefully in that region living alongside Jews born in the Middle East. These native born "Israelis" probably saw the newcomers as outsiders. Little did they know what problems were to beset the new Israel in future years. Perhaps, now is the time for the world to say STOP to Israel, and for a peace settlement to be forced upon it from the West.
Julie Bishop's Plea in support of Israel's use of Australian passports as a means to assassinate a Palestinian activist are typical actions of a "blind" Westerner. Maybe now we should all take stock and react against Israel in support of Palestinians who have seen their economy ruined by Israel's continuing blockade. Even the UN Fails to condemn the authoritative actions that if done by any other state would be called rogue. The Palestinians are the oppressed minority today, not Israelis.
