Name one application that will run on a pro version and not the home, or vice versa.
IIS
Remote Desktop Server
WMIC
That's just off the top of my head.
You dont understand how OS version works? The newest version runs ALL software for the OS. Android 2.3 does exactly that. Of course an app written for 2.3 wont run on 1.6. Thats just common sense.

As far as putting limitations on digital content, that's their right. It is _their_ content. If they make the wrong decision, they'll come around when someone smarter makes the right one.
I think this is just the point. Thay have made the wrong decisions. Again and again. We now have a situation where all of the DRM incentives so far actually stimulate piracy. Because circumventing the rights management results in a better consumer experience.
Here's an example.
I own hundreds of DVDs - I was a classic early adopter. I like to get movies early. I live in the UK and the movie studios like to release movies later in Europe. So I own a large collection of Region 1 DVDs. I also rent a lot of DVDs perhaps 3 or 4 per week. These are all Region 2.
But the DVD drives in Apple computers are all region-locked. Five changes and that is it. So you have to pick. Rented disks or dvd collection.
So thanks to a studio-imposed attempt to control the market. They are undermining my legitimate enjoyment of my own movie collection. I do not feel grateful to them for this. It might be their right - but it is morally wrong.
As a customer I resent their interference. I regret paying for so many disks because my experience has been soured. If you are a loyal customer, your loyalty should be rewarded and not punished.
The way to beat piracy is to identify loyal paying customers, and guarantee them a better, more convenient, more rewarding experience. Send them newsletters. Give paying customers free iPod versions. Give them behind the scenes extras. Shiny boxes, free competitions. Reward them for paying.
But instead they are so terrified of piracy, that publishers are willing to ruin the experience of paying customers in the impossible hope that it will slow down the access of non-paying customers.
Consumers punish this sort of behavior. And they have a right to do that - even if its only a moral right and not a legal right.

yawn. how many more stories about this stupid "location tracking".
There's nothing stupid about this. Its a huge privacy violation to have your locations constantly tracked without your consent, even if the data is not used directly by Apple. This easily accessed location data on your phone was already widely known and used by police agencies since last year according to several articles, so you can just imagine what it is like for someone in a police state to have all their locations for the past year easily accessed when they are arrested. That's not to mention spying or abusive spouses, industrial espionage, and many other reasons to want to maintain some confidentiality.
The fact that Apple only bothered to care about this or look into it after it became a media storm shows that there is a simple lack of privacy controls and concern about privacy at the company.

Just thought I'd mention that the highly respected PC website "Tom's Hardware Guide" has just posted an absolutely GLOWING review of the Mac Mini on its website today...

If it is downloadable or for sale in a form of media, it is subject to being pirated!
What the crap does the iPod have to do with this? Because the file is compressed down for a portable media player, it will be more subject to being stolen than not ? Fair Play doesn't let you burn DVD's with iTunes Videos, and you are locked to only playing on validated machines!
Yes Production costs for Movies are much higher than music, however selling them digitally via Apple costs them nothing! They don't have to pay for displays, shipping, manufacturing, marketing, or deal with returns.
This is as stupid as Universal Studios wanting to get a $1 for every iPod sold.

just to clear something up. This right now appears to be a text-based phone. I don't think Wu is talking about iChat AV functionality. Some other sites (of much, much less accuracy) have been claiming that the iPhone would be able to do videoconferencing and whatnot, but currently there isn't any good evidence to support this, and in my opinion it doesn't look like current 3G GSM cellular networks simply don't have the duplex bandwidth to deliver that kind of content. (and 4G is still a ways off)

Haven't listened to them for quite some and accidentally stumbled upon their new LP "There Is No Enemy". Damn did I miss these guys. I loaded the new album on my iPod for a quick listen for my 5min hike to the store. Well I ended up walking around for like 45mins totally spaced and only came to when the cd ended. All in all, good walk - great cd.;)

ok, still waiting on graphics card. Wiring is neater now.
But I'm still having an issue with running video feeds from the internet. The MDD is ethernet wired rather than airport. Its really choppy with maybe 2 or 3 frames per second but perfect sound.
Could this be the video card? I've got 2Gb of ram now so that sorts that end of things. Will the ATi 9700 128mb DDR solve the issue?

There is a long term move to dismantle government social programs and who needs the truth when we can lie to you gullible idiots? You know we can't afford your social program and school because we have these billion, thats B-I-L-L-I-O-N dollar bombers that need building. We can't let our contractor friends down.
One of the few time I agree with the OP: We (referring to the U.S.A) Are Screwed.
This is all very simplistic, but here goes:
1. Reform Health care- one illness from bankruptcy is not acceptable for a developed country. Health care should have never been turned into a profit machine along the same lines that you don't want your police and firemen as for-profit enterprises. The larger the pool the smaller the costs.
2. Cut Federal programs before lowering taxes especially on the rich- you can't balance a budget if you have no income. If you must lower taxes, you must first cut the programs and deal with the popular unrest before cutting any taxes. This is exactly what the champion of the Republican Party did not do- Reagan, he cut taxes but not programs and this country ran the first substantial deficits since WWII.
3. Progressive Tax policies are a must- The rich are rich. Make them pay their fair share. They can afford it. Cutting their taxes to create jobs is mostly a conservative smoke screen to **** over average citizens. Trickle Down Economics, called voodoo economics by Bush Sr, equates to let the rich eat cake and rest of you can have the crumbs that fall off their plate.
4. Stop allowing the Exportation of Jobs- If you want to keep a standard of living. Lowering the standard of living reduces income and tax revenues.
5. Enact policies that support a strong Middle Class- instead of wiping it out for the sake of the rich. A strong middle class powers the economy.
6. Search High and Low for Corruption- No system will work if it's corrupt. Thieves submitting thousands of fraudulent Medicare claims is hurting us. It also destroys the validity of any social program so conservatives can wave it in your face and say "see social programs are bad."
7. Stop supporting Illegal Immigrants- We can't afford the cost of rounding up millions of illegals and deporting them. Enact policies that go after employers. If they can't get hired, eventually they will go back home. In Minnesota I remember when all the house building crews were made up of locals. Now they are all Hispanics. Don't get me wrong, my wife is Hispanic so I have nothing against Hispanics nor immigrants, just illegal ones. And if an illegal alien has a kid here, do not give that kid citizen status. We do have the right to have and enforce citizenship standards.
8. Dismantle the War Machine- in the good ole days we could afford it. Now we can't.
9. Taxes vs Services- Have a NO **** discussion on taxes vs services we want government to supply. Don't just run a "I'll lower your taxes" campaign.
10. Push for Domestic Manufacturing and a Level World Wide Playing Field- It's a social, economic, and security issue. If we can't can't dump toxic waste in the river but China can, we can't compete. There is a price to pay for cheap products- the loss of our jobs and the degradation of our environment. And it is self reinforcing. Once we lose our jobs, all we can afford is the cheap product. Of course the few in charge of the corporate machine will do quite well for themselves as always.
We are doomed because we need to:
11. Find a new party to run the country- Democrats have problems staying balanced. Republicans DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT AVERAGE CITIZENS and they are too in love with WAR. I don't see the Tea Party and A-hole Sara as the answer either. Most likely no one will be able to achieve the previous 10 steps. Find a party who places people above corporate profits and can run a balance budget. Impossible?
12. Find smarter citizens- This country is full of myopic dummies too stupid to know when they are shooting themselves in the foot. Ironically both conservatives and liberals will point at each other! ;)

You are welcome to expend the effort to discover the back story. If you choose not to, go ahead keep spouting misinformation and jingoism, but be prepared to be called on it or to simply be ignored as lacking credibility.

I got an ihome ip40 for christmas and it has been working fine with my iphone 4 until recently. It still charges the phone, but when I try to use the ipod function on the dock and play music, it says "accessory is not compatible with iphone". Any suggestions on what the issue on this may be? Thanks
