Native Claim Wins Out Over Commonsense

Here we go again. Beliefs of a small group win out over commonsense. We all know that the land around Uluru, Ayers Rock, is sacred. That is accepted. Saying it is too sacred to go boating on a freshwater lake in South Australia is absolute rot. The native Aboriginals, the Arabunna, at Lake Eyre are making outrageous claims. How does boating affect their beliefs that objects have souls? If you want to believe that grains of sand have souls so be it, but leave everyone else alone.

The Arabunna were quite happy with local boating until plans were made to hold a sailing event by a yacht club. Nothing has changed. Swimming will be banned next. Aboriginals are afraid to use the lake anyway because they fear the lake's spirit keeper.

It all boils down to a dispute with the government over native title. If things aren't going well say something is sacred and stop this, stop that, stop everything. It is just bloody mindedness.

As the commodore of Lake Eyre Yacht Club says: this infringes on the natural right of people to use the lake as a navigable waterway. Talks have stalled. It seem nothing will be done until the Arabunna have their way.

The Wrong Missing Body Found by Psychic

Mediums can be right - some of the time. An Aboriginal elder in NSW told police she saw a girl dead in a dream. A six year old girl had been missing. The problem was the body was of an adult. A person had been dismembered wrapped in plastic and left at an Aboriginal burial site.

A Sydney woman was last seen in June. Post-mortem tests will probably confirm that the body was missing 31 year old Kristi Mc Dougall. The Aboriginal woman strongly believes that she has psychic talents.

The odds of finding bones of dead people in an Aboriginal burial site are extremely high. Though having a premonition that a recently dead person are there is not strong. The seer has helped police with their enquiries, but not in the way she had "imagined".

Bob Geldof Is Uninformed

Bob Geldof doesn't know what he is talking about. How can a person not living in a country possibly know the truth about a country's situation. He has said that Australia is economically stupid for not finding work for Aboriginals. There is plenty of work for them in the nation's premier sports competition the AFL. Seriously though, there is not much work available in the bush where Aboriginals generally choose to reside. A significant proportion of them live in Sydney. There they are offered work, but most do not take it. Many Aboriginals believe that white people took the land from them so they can give money for Aboriginals to live on.

Sport is the main area for career Aboriginals. There are indeed a lot in the Australian Football League and Australian Rugby League, also in athletics. Some turn their hand to traditional Aboriginal art. A few have made it to national politics and some have found a place in the media. Considering they make up only two percent of the population they are not a big drain on the economy. They get subsidies in education far and above that for white people. So entry into educational institutions is not the problem. Job training schemes are available even in the bush.

Only city born Aboriginals live fully "modern" lives. These are Aboriginals who have had no experience of Aboriginal culture and do not know to which tribe they belong. Some of these would marry, settle down and buy a house on a mortgage for example. The Government is in the process of building new houses for long lease to Aboriginals. The cost of living in them will be greatly subsidized, but of course ownership will return to the state after 40 years.

Aboriginals living in the interior live by consuming native fauna while still taking unemployment benefits. The Intervention experiment has been a disaster. It was instigated by the Howard Government ostensibly to stop sexual molestation of minors and to improve Aboriginal diets. Neither has improved with Intervention for two reasons. First there was no connection between income and sexual molestation. Second Aboriginals have such low incomes and food is so expensive in the bush that they still buy the cheapest most filling foods. Controlling the income of only a portion of the population is discriminatory anyway and should not have occurred.

Bob Geldof should live in a country before he passes judgement upon it. Just because his ex-wife made off with an Australian is no excuse to "kick' the country.

European Names Were Not Forced on Aboriginals

Aboriginals are barking up the wrong tree. Saying that White invaders forced name tags on them is a bit rich. Aboriginals gladly accepted European style names. An Australian who is 80 percent white taking an Aboriginal name is ridiculous, considering many do not speak any native tongue. They cannot opt out of registration of births. It is against the law.

Another thing is Aboriginals calling themselves a group of nations like the nation tribes of North America. Native Australians were spread across the land in very small tribes. They had no concept of federated nations. Communication only existed between neighboring tribes.

Too much has been made of the Mabo decision. This was based on tribal land rights over a piece of land that Aboriginals had always occupied. It does not apply to Aboriginals living in cities. The Mabo finding cannot apply to people who are more European than Aboriginal. Native Britons were invaded by foreigners with Celtic blood being diluted by inter-socialization. The same has occurred to Aboriginals. Virtually no full-blood Aboriginals exist today.

Keviin Rudd Will Lose the Next Election

Will the Labour Government mess up the new broadband investment like it has the roof insulation scheme, new housing for Aboriginals and building of new medical clinics? There was no mention of the planned new broadband network in the budget. Worse than this there was a "secret" hit in the budget on those who use liquid gas to run their cars.

The roofing scheme was a disaster. The Government ignored knowledge from New Zealand about installers being electrocuted when putting in foil insulation. Why did they do it? It seems Kevin Rudd just decides to have something done and then delegates. An efficient leader follows through and monitors what he instigates.

Aboriginal housing is another area not monitored. Only a few houses have been built despite millions already spent. And Aboriginals dearly need housing, with many sleeping under the night sky in the outback.

Medical clinics is another problem where a lot has been spent and little has been done. Only two clinics have been constructed. In rural regions people need medical services now. not in two years time.

It looks like Kevin Rudd is about to make history - a party losing office after only one term in government. He has himself to blame. In the last election he promised so much. Yet, he has not performed. The opinion polls show what people perceive is happening. The country is like a ship drifting on the high seas with the captain sleeping off a drinking session below deck. Furthermore, the new tax on mineral companies is a mistake. It will not change the way polls are going. Australians know how important the exportation of ore is to the overall economy. Rather than gaining support people are "ho humming" this tax grab. It is certainly perceived as a tax grab because people do not see mineral companies as rip off merchants. They provide works and help the balance of payments position.

Kevin Rudd can announce that he is hurt by having to postpone the Emissions Trading Scheme, but he chose to put it on ice. The Government could have tried to get it through the Senate again. It seem Kevin Rudd has shot himself in the foot by promising much and delivering little.

Julia Gillard should be preening herself and getting ready. Soon the Labor leadership and possibly control of the country's future could be in her hands. Unfortunately, she will have to spend some time in opposition first.

Ray Martin Is a Weak Aboriginal - The Flag Issue

A new debate about the flag has been instigated by Ray Martin. With 45 percent of people in favor of keeping the existing Australian flag and 27 percent against there is not much more to be said. Ray Martin claims to be Aboriginal. Just take a look at him. He is 95 percent white! Many Australians who have one Aboriginal ancestor wear Aboriginality "like a flag". That is exactly what Ray Martin is doing.

What is the alternative? It would be worth considering a change in flag design if there was a popular alternative. Apart from the Aboriginal flag which is tied up in legal argument by Tasmanian Aboriginals there isn't another choice. The only other flag that some would accept is the boxing kangaroo. But that is a silly comic like kangaroo, a caricature, not a well designed and poised animal. There are other Australian animals just as worthy, for example, the platypus, Tasmanian devil, or koala. What about a blow in? Somebody draw a camel! Seriously though, designs need to be created and put forward in a selection process.

The flag and republic issues will become relevant as years go by. At the moment Australia has other things to worry about, like immigration, the skills shortage and housing. Change is needed with the national anthem as well. "Advance Australia fair." What is that supposed to mean? Are we fair as in playing sport, or are we proud of our white skin? A survey would find that hardly anyone knows what it really means.

Australia has many problems. The flag, republic and anthem issues can wait.

Greens Groups Are Causing Divison Among Aboriginals Over NW Project

The Greenies and Aboriginals are at odds with each other. While Aboriginals are trying to get a share of the mineral boom, Greenies want to end it. A case in point is Broome in Western Australia where the WA Premier has said that if Aboriginals don't agree to what has been offered the state will allow development anyway. Greenies have responded to this with abuse of parliamentarians and lying about the consequences.

Save the Kimberley environmental groups and Wilderness Society have caused so much trouble that Aboriginal families are arguing with each other. Aboriginals want job creation. Greenies are not interested in more jobs. Greenies have even accused Aboriginals of being in league with developers.

Coming in and throwing your weight around to get what you want is not the way to go. Greenies carry a lot of weight and they are damaging Aboriginal communities by pretending to help native people. Greenies are trying to stop the gas hub at all costs and the cost could ultimately be met by Aboriginals who loose out on everything if they don't sign on the line.

Green groups are blaming the state and federal governments for causing division among Aboriginals when it is Greenies who are causing it.
