Could the Australian Government Turn Off the Internet

Could what has happened in Egypt occur in Australia? That is Turning off the internet. It is as easy as clicking a switch. A government would just contact the main telecommunications company explain the state of emergency and the telco would turn it off. Minor internet providers would follow.

A major problem for a government would be cutting off internet access of journalists. Much of their system is outside of public providers. Turn off that system and you stop government agencies talking to each other.

Cutting off access for major cities would be a waste of time. Television, radio and the print media could not be stopped. In a place like Australia where information transmission is decentralised there is no one person to instruct.

Let's face it - any Australian government that did pull the plug would self-destruct. There is no way the people would ever trust it again. There is also the problem of "leakage" as a few minor Internet providers refuse to submit - some are foreign owned.

Australians are just as smart as other people and many would find "work-arounds", so even if the switch was flicked it would not have much of an effect on communication to the outside. Business would be affected because the Internet is widely used.

Frogs Get Rid of Foreign Objects Through Their Bladder - Weird

Have you heard of the person who got part of a needle stuck in his hand and it came out 10 years later through his foot? Strange things like this do happen. It is the body's way of safely ridding the body of potentially dangerous objects. Work on Australian frogs show they deal with such things in a different way.

Tiny bead-like radio transmitters were implanted into frogs. They were put into body cavities of frogs and even toads. Oddly, the small devices disappeared. The beads moved along the body into the bladder where they were, in due course, fully expelled from the body.

This may sound like something quite obvious and unremarkable until one is informed that the beads were two centimeters long and some of the frogs were only eight centimeters long. It is no mean fete for such a small animal. It was discovered that tissue from the bladder grows out and envelopes the foreign object. The object is then drawn into the bladder.

Apparently, frogs have evolved this to rid their bodies of the sharp extremities and extrusions of insects, their main diet. Furthermore, frogs have thin skin and they hop, landing clumsily. Thus, thorns from plants can easily pierce their bodies.

Researchers had assumed that when a transmitter was no longer mobile, the host animal was dead. Now they will have to find out if the transmitter was naturally expelled.

Internet TV Really Hasn't Arrived

Google launches Internet TV. It is here, but will it be successful. Until broadband is readily available to every one it will not be commonplace. Everyone knows that if you play low band radio on your computer while you do program work how the usage rate goes through the roof and you are quickly exceed your broadband limit. For high definition movies the download width will be astronomical. Only those lucky few in the very center of major cities will be able to use the system. The great majority like the dial-up users in the outback will look on in envy.

Even Internet radio with a dedicated radio has been a dead loss. It hasn't taken off. The download requirements are just too high. Where are the virtual reality computer systems today? They have been forgotten. It seems 3D will go the same way. Using your smartphone to control Internet TV is a gimmick. You may as well have a proper controller. This won't keep people's attention.

A lot of new technology is out there but without the infrustructure it will rot on the vine. I am waiting for Telstra to provide me with a 8000 kpbs broadband service. After much apology on their part they have had to give up. I knew it couldn't be done because my old provider couldn't do it. Telstra is in a bind now. With my intention to take them to the Communications Ombudsmand and ACCC for false advertising they are stuck. Selling an 8000 service that runs at a maximum of 3000 is just not on. The tranfer rate of 426 is sufficient they say. It may be sufficient for them but it is robbery to me. No, I will stick to my guns and take them all they way to get change in the communications sector.
