My Personal Review for Promises by Marie Sexton

I picked up Promises because I liked the sound of the blurb. Wasn't sure what I was getting story wise but the minute I started reading I was hooked. This is the first book in the Coda Series and I have to admit, I stayed up really late just to finish it. Needless to say once pay day hits, I am getting the rest of the series to read. :-)

Now onto my review of Promises.....

Jared Thomas loves his small town of Coda, Colorado. He lives, works and has an enjoyable life…a bit one that is a bit lonely as well. Being the only other gay man has it disadvantages mainly there are no single gay men to have a relationship with. Jared was fine with that until Matt Richards walks into the door and into his life. From then on, it’s misunderstandings, falling in love, secrets and a whole lot of sexual tension between the two men. Will they be able to find a way to work past everything that is thrown at them to have the relationship they deserve?

I seriously don't know how I missed this series before now. I have seen the author around on loops, facebook, etc but never really explored her books. Well I am remedying that ASAP. Promises is an engrossing tale of a small town and the two men who find they are perfect for one another. What I loved the most about this story was how the author was able to incorporate small town life into the storyline. It made the story much more life like and I could really relate to the characters.
The characters in Promise had me at times, laughing, sighing and wanting to smack them for their stubbornness. They are so life like I swear I could find them in my small town and be friends with them. They were quite multi-dimensional and kept my attention till the very end. Jared Thomas is an openly gay man but doesn't flaunt it in his small town. He loves his town but the man prospects are dismal at best. Enter in new police officer, Matt Richards. He blew Jared away with his smile, the kindness he spies in his face and the loneliness he sees in his eyes. A kindred spirit they become friends and Jared is resigned to loving Matt secretly as Matt is straight....well Jared thinks he is that is. What results is secret desires, confusion, misunderstandings and more. Can Jared get Matt to accept and embrace his feelings or will Matt walk away from Jared forever?

I love how this author really peeled the layers from him and Matt so the readers could see the heart of their issues throughout the story. Each time I felt like I knew the characters, another layer would be ripped open and you would see a whole new side of them. It made the story much more life like to me. There were a few secondary characters that left quite an impression on me so I am hoping the author revisits them soon.

Promises is more than a simple romance story of two friends falling for one another. It's about taking a risk to reach for your happily ever after. That, yes you are worth that love the other person feels for you. It's about hope, promises of forever, love, friendship and so much more. Ms. Sexton delivers a timeless classic in Promises and it is one book I can see reading again, multiple times. I am eager to read the next chapter in the Coda series and can't wait to see what happens next for Matt, Jared and all their friends in Coda, Colorado.
If you are looking for a new author to explore, I highly recommend Marie Sexton. She delivers character rich stories that will leave a smile on your face. I can't wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve for her readers in the future.

Guest Author Day with Ryssa Edwards

First, tell us a little about you and what you do.
What I do? Ummm. . a girl’s got to have some secrets. Actually, by day I work for a really big company. By night, I meet interesting people, and all but bribe them to tell me their life story and let me follow them around. I call these people “characters”, and I write down their stories. They get into some pretty scary situations, and sometimes (*insert guilty blush*), I push their backs up against the wall and . . . see what happens. It’s fun. It keeps me off the streets and (mostly) out of trouble.

What do you like to read?
Books. Kidding. I like reading stories. If you can tell a good story, I’ll read it. Right now, I’m on a short story kick, so I’ve been hanging around with folks like Ambrose Bierce, Stephen King, Ian Fleming and H. P. Lovecraft. My yardstick for reading is whether or not a writer can pull me in right from the first sentence. I’m a tough reader. If your story can’t completely grab me in the first paragraph, you lose a few points on my ‘story scale’. I’m just as tough on myself. My goal is to write a story that my reader can’t walk away from; not even for a page, or a paragraph. . . or a sentence. ‘

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Oh my gosh. Tough question. I know it sounds cliché, but the best advice I can give is . . .write!
Write all the time. Even if you don’t’ have a pen in your hand. If you something makes you stop and go, “Wow. That’s interesting.” Ask yourself why? What caught your attention? How would get someone else to see it the way you did? Over time, these little observations will make it into your characters and your worlds.
When you get a rejection letter, (and you’ll get lots)look at it this way, you’re one step closer to getting published.

Did I say write? Buy a notebook. Take it everywhere. Ladies, get a purse-size notebook. Guys. . . I don’t know what to tell you. Got ten extra minutes in your day? Then you’ve got time to write daily. Pick a good exercise book. One of my favorites is A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves. I just started Writing Down the Bones. The exercises are tough, but you get a lot out of them. I’m working my way through The 4 A. M. Breakthrough by Brian Kiteley. I love this one!  I can’t finish each exercise in ten minutes, but if I stay with one exercise all week, then that’s fifty minutes of exercises in a week.
And my last bit of advice . . . don’t stop. You know those times when your internal editor is all over you? Keep writing. That voice never goes away, but if you keep going, one day you’ll get to prove them wrong.

What’s your latest release?

My Personal Review for Serving of Love by Andrew Grey

I love Andrew Grey's work. The connection between characters, the lyrical way he delivers a story that is full of friendship and romance, it takes your breath away whenever you pick up one of his books. In his latest release, A Serving of Love (out May 23rd), we are treated to a story of two people who find they are just perfect for one another.

Meet Sebastian Franklin. He works at Café Belgie as front house manager and though people may think he is a party man, he actually enjoys quiet night’s home. Meeting Robert Fortier was something of a surprise one night and this begins a friendship that turns to something much more. But Robert has just finally accepted he is gay and is quite reluctant to let anyone in his life romantically. Well that is until he meets Sebastian and finds himself falling for the young man-hard.Can these two find a way to make a relationship work between them even as Sebastian's ex and their own issues crop up to derail them?

Mr. Grey does it again with A Serving of Love. It is a heartfelt story of two people finding they are perfect for one another even as they are as different as apples are to oranges. Mr. Grey makes it work as Sebastian and Robert find themselves falling in love even as events swirl around them that could leave them both heartbroken or deliriously happy. The writing was tight, story flowed smoothly and yes, Darryl and Billy are back as well as a few new characters to enjoy.

I love how Mr. Grey delivers character rich stories that leave you smiling in the end. With each page, I was invested more and more into Sebastian and Robert's relationship, got angry over certain idiots (have to read the story sorry guys) and rooted for them to get their happily ever after. They do say opposites attract and this is the perfect case for it. I loved how the differences between the main characters were not the main bone of contention between them as they explore a relationship together. Mr. Grey is a talented writer when he delivers a story that had a few serious issues involved in the storyline. I felt it enhanced the story instead of taking it over and making it too heavy of a read.

If you are looking for a perfect beach read, this is the right book to take with you. A Serving of Love delivers hours of reading enjoyment, delightful characters to root for and a romance that will leave you aching for more. If you haven't read A Taste of Love, I highly recommend reading it first but this can be read as a standalone story if you haven't. Mr. Grey delivers another perfect story to enjoy and I cannot wait to see what else he has up his sleeve for his beloved readers. If you love character rich stories that make you feel like you are home, then pick up one of this author's books. You won't be disappointed.

My rating for A Serving of Love: 4 Stars

My Personal Review for Nothing Ever Happens by Sue Brown

When author Sue Brown sent me her latest release, Nothing Ever Happens, II wasn't sure what to expect. Sure it would have the romance I love between two people but other than that I wasn't sure what to expect from this story. I am glad to say it blew me away. Nothing Ever Happens is a story that had me laughing one minute then crying the next-and I don't mean those few tears you cry when the allergies hit or the wind causes. Those big soul deep sobs that leave you exhausted in the end.

Sue Brown has given her readers a powerful, heart wrenching story that you will need a box of tissues to read. I was blown away by the sheer emotions that you feel throughout the story. Laughter, love, sadness, anger, passion are all felt by the reader as they follow Andrew and Nathan on their journey to a happily ever after.  Nothing Ever Happens is a story not just about two gay men but about two people who have baggage, fears, vulnerabilities and more to overcome in order to have their desires realized in the end. Ms. Brown captivated me from the moment I opened this latest book from her and I just could not put it down. It was riveting to experience the ups and downs these two men experience in their lives as life’s twists and turns took them, first, to their heart’s desire and then far from it. I stayed up late to finish it and found myself feeling every emotion the characters felt as I read Nothing Ever Happens.

Trying to put this book down was hard. You just had to read another page and then another...another until you were up till the wee hours just to see what would happen next for Nathan and Andrew. The heartbreaks, the passion, the friendship and the love all come out between the characters and though I wanted to hate a few of the secondary characters, I really couldn’t. The story was more than a romance between Andrew and Nathan; it was also about finding out who you are inside and out, accepting it and living with the consequences of your actions. This author delivered a few twists that had me gasping in disbelief as I turned the pages wondering how this could happen. The characters stay with you long after the last page is read.

Love isn’t smooth or Disney made but messy, wonderful and full of experiences. Ms. Brown delivers all that and more in Nothing Ever Happens with gusto. She is a talented author who knows how to make a story shine, with a few of little things to keep the reader on their toes and with characters you cannot help but fall in love with. Nothing Ever Happens is a book I plan to read again, this time with two boxes of tissues next to me.

If you are looking for emotional stories, complex and believable characters and a passion so timeless, then pick up a Sue Brown book. This author is now one of my favorite GBLT authors to explore and I can’t wait to see what she has in store next for her readers.

My rating: 5 Stars

My Personal Review for Morning Report by Sue Brown

When I picked up Sue Brown's Morning Report, I was just expecting a simple tale of two cowboys falling in love and finding their HEA. What I got was something much more. A story of two people fighting to  live their life as gay men together in a small town. Discrimination, friends who turn against them and a relationship tested for the first time. This is all what Morning Report is and more. Ms. Brown is one author I have on my auto-buy list since you get some highly emotional stories that resonate with the reader.

Morning Report is about a couple, Simon and Luke, who have been together for ten years.  They run Luke's family ranch, live as quiet as possible and keep their head down though Luke does have a temper at times.  When a new preacher comes to town, all that changes when this man preaches that the devil is in the town and in the process, gets the town folk all riled up. Small mindedness, discrimination and more happen when Luke and Simon find out and all hell breaks loose as they fight not just for themselves and their relationship but also for the ranch as some narrow minded individuals try to force them to leave in any way they can.

What I love about this story is it has an established couple who find their relationship is tested in a way they never experienced before. It is a story that has you laughing one minute, swooning the next then to switch it up, crying like a baby. It runs the gauntlet of emotions from the first page to the last. Ms. Brown does a great job in keeping the storyline moving at an even pace with humorous scenes sprinkled within to lessen the heavier parts. The characters are well written, multi-dimensional and deliver strong performances-even the secondary characters get involved which I loved.

Morning Report is more than a M/M Western story, it's also about finding a way to live the life you want in a time where there are places where you may not be welcomed. Ms. Brown is a talented writer who continues to deliver stories that claim her readers hearts and souls. If you are looking for a well written, delightful Cowboy story, then I highly recommend grabbing Morning Report. I do want to mention there may be scenes that may not appeal to you (i. e. sizzling sex scenes). If oyu haven't picked up a Sue Brown book, what are you waiting for??? RUN-don't walk-to grab this and her other books to enjoy. I know I am.

My Personal Review for Seven Days by Andrew Grey

I don't know about you but when I picked up my first Andrew Grey book, The Best Revenge, I didn't know I would find an author I just had to read over the next few years. Each time I grabbed the newest book from this author, I always thought, "He can't get any better than the last book" and I was always proven wrong. Andrew Grey is a talented writer, one I know will always deliver a story that will leave me crying, laughing and smiling-sometimes all at once too.

Seven Days is this author's brand new release and one that completely hooked me from the beginning. I can't imagine the emotions an author experiences when he writes a pivotal scene(s) yet when a reader like myself is bawling their eyes out because of something he/she has written, well all I can say is "Pass the tissues".

Mr. Grey delivers a strong, emotional story about one man's journey through loss and despair to finding that slim sliver of hope shining through when life closes one door and then proceeds to open a new one for you to walk through. Evan Donaldson is that man and this is the journey he goes on in Seven Days. I can't begin to put my thoughts into words as they tumble like a sparkling brook over rocks. The reader feels every emotion Evan has and experiences and finds that silver lining under all those gray clouds.

Evan is a character I fell in love with the moment he stepped off the first page-dirty, scared, resigned to life on the streets at a tender age. The moment Father Valentin steps into the picture, you get a sense of how one door closes for Evan and another beckons-if he is willing to trust one man who doesn't want to hurt him. First love, changing lives, friendships and more are experienced by the reader as Evan travels through the years in Seven Days. Mr. Grey has a knack for creating the right amount of mystery, tension and romance in his stories that will completely captivate the reader.

Seven Days is more than a story of two people falling in love, its about faith, trust and the sense that life may give you a few twists but in the end, you find that what you are searching for is worth it in the end. Kudos to Mr. Grey for creating this heartfelt, emotional story and I look forward to seeing what else this author may have in store for his beloved readers.

Guest Author Ariel Tachna

Today I have the pleasure of having one of favorite authors, Ariel Tachna, popping and talking about her love affair with France. So sit back, grab a croissant and take a journey to France with Ariel.
My Love Affair with France

People ask me occasionally where I’m from.  They seem to have a hard time believing me when I tell them I was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and lived there until I was eighteen and went off to college (and to see the world).  “But your books are all set in France….”  It’s not a question, really.  More of an observation, but one that subtly requests an explanation.

So I should start by saying that not all my books are set in France.  Of my current published or contracted novels, only half of them are set in France.  Of course, of the other half, one is set in Spain, one is set in outer space, one is in the Caribbean, and one is in a complete alternate universe, so my ratio of France to US in settings isn’t quite as high.
That said, I have nine current or upcoming books set in various parts of France. That’s enough to merit the observation and an explanation.  So why France?

I fell in love with the French language when I was twelve years old. I had an absolutely fabulous French teacher who made learning fun.  More than that, speaking French was like remembering something I’d forgotten.  (My sisters, in a fit of jealousy, decided I must have been Joan of Arc in a past life because nobody should have been able to learn another language as quickly and easily as I did French.)  I decided right then whatever else I did in my life, I was going to speak this language so well no one would even question my nationality when I went to France.

Ten years later, I reached that goal.

I went to France for the first time as a junior in college and had the good fortune to live with an incredible family who welcomed me in and still (19 years later) introduces me as their American daughter when I go back to visit.  I also had the good fortune to meet the man I later married.  (He’s from India, not France, but that’s a different story.)  The combination of the generosity of my adoptive family and the memories of falling in love made that semester the highlight of my college career.

Two years later, I had the opportunity to go back and teach in France for a year.  I jumped at the chance, and I swore by the time I left, no one would ever again say to me, “Oh, you speak French so well for an American.”  Everyone who said it intended it as a compliment.  I always knew that.  But if they said it, I’d said something wrong, and that was unacceptable.

I haven’t heard that sentence, except from people who know me and so know I’m American, since halfway through that year.

That’s the history, the facts, but I was one of twenty students who went to France that semester, yet I seem to be the only one who fell in love.  So the question becomes what is it about France that captivates me so?

I’m not sure there’s an easy answer for that, but the simplest answer is another little anecdote.  I went back to France in June 2004 for a wedding after a very stressful school year.  Back in Dijon again, I visited old friends and wandered the city where I fell in love with France and with my husband.  Despite having moved back to the US nine years earlier, I ran into people I knew in stores I had frequented and even on the street.  Talk about a small world!  In the week I was there, all the stress from the school year disappeared and I went from being miserable to feeling like I was home.

That sums it up for me in a way little else does.  France feels like home.  I love the café culture.  I love the “bises” they give each other when they greet their friends. I love the fact that when I was in a grocery store, I overheard a woman complaining about some fresh produce smelling like it had been refrigerated.  She was used to getting things fresh from the farm two or three times a week at the local market.  I love the fact that there’s a different kind of cheese for every day of the year.  I love the fact that I never needed a car when I lived there because the public transportation was extensive enough and reliable enough that it was a viable option, not just for me but for the French as well. I love the fact that there’s another piece of history around every corner.  When I called home the first time after arriving in France, my mother asked me what I thought, and my reaction was that everything was so old.  Not run down, but ancient.  There are businesses in Dijon that predate Columbus’s discovery of the Americas.  Not just buildings. Businesses.

Even more than all of that, though, I love the people. I know the French have the reputation for being snobby or cold or reserved, but I have never been treated that way.  19 years later, I still keep in touch with that first family I lived with and their three daughters.  I attended all three of their weddings.  I still exchange letters with my former colleagues from when I taught there. I have friends all over the country who open their homes to me any time I come to visit.  In every town and city I visited, even Paris, people went out of their way to be helpful to me, whether I was by myself or with my husband and two kids. My son was nine months old the last time we went to France. Americans told us we were crazy. I told them we’d be fine, and we were.  Someone grabbed the other end of the stroller every time we encountered steps with no elevator or escalator.

So why are so many of my stories set in France? The answer is really quite simple.

I’m American by birth, but my heart belongs to France.

Overdrive by Ariel Tachna
Coming April 8 from Dreamspinner Press
Blurb:
All his life, French racer Daniel Leroux has dreamed of one thing: winning the World Rally Championship. To do that, he needs a co-driver he can trust. If only he could find one….

At the end of a disastrous season, Daniel’s manager replaces his incompetent co-driver with Frank Dufour, a young Canadian whose rally team let him go because he was gay. Daniel’s in heaven, thinking he might find more than just a teammate, but his manager puts the brakes on, declaring Frank firmly off limits. Frank isn’t any more ready to risk his second—and last—chance at making it in the WRC, no matter how attractive he finds Daniel. Sex and cars don’t mix.

Amidst a bitter rivalry with another driver, sabotage attempts, extreme weather conditions, and the stress of racing, Daniel and Frank forge a partnership that defies the odds, but just as things start to heat up between them, a family emergency calls Frank away. Will they find their way back together or will the separation and the spotlight be too much for their fledgling love to survive?

Excerpt:

“Putain de merde, qu’est-ce vous faites? Vous ne pouvez pas lire les indications que vous avez écrites vous-même?”
Daniel Leroux glared at his co-driver in frustration as they finally came to a stop. He’d lost count of how many times the car flipped this time, but this was not the first time his co-driver’s errors had led to them rolling and being eliminated from a race. He could just see his rank falling as once again a rally ended with no points in his score column.
The crowd rushed over to make sure they were unhurt. Daniel summoned a smile as he pulled himself from the car to the cheers of the fans. Finland was a hard course, and he wasn’t the first driver to wipe out on this turn, nor would he be the last, he was sure, but his co-driver telling him the road curved left instead of right was more than a miscalculation. It was the kind of gross error that got people killed. He didn’t plan on being one of them. When they got back to the hotel where they were staying for the week, Daniel intended to talk to the team manager. He was already out of contention for this season. Even if they won every remaining rally, they couldn’t catch the leader, and they’d have to come in third or above in every remaining race to end up in the top five. With a co-driver he could trust, he might have done it. With the idiot climbing out of the car on the other side as co-driver, he’d be lucky to be alive still at the end of the season.
The spectators helped push the car back onto the road, allowing Daniel to continue down the course, but he didn’t push the time. He could hear from the sounds coming from the engine that they wouldn’t make it at high speeds. He’d get off the course so it was clear for the next driver and then withdraw from the rest of the race.

“I’m sorry, Jean-Paul,” Daniel said, tossing his helmet and gloves on the table as he turned to face the team manager. “I can’t work with him anymore. I’ve tried and tried. Watch the onboard if you don’t believe me. A little off with the timing is bad enough, but telling me it would be a left turn instead of a right turn is more than bad timing. We’re lucky we weren’t killed.”
“You mean we’re lucky you’re a damn good driver,” Jean-Paul corrected. “Even with Isabelle working her magic, it’s going to take time to repair the car. So what are you thinking, Dany, besides that you want me to fire Xavier?”
“I’m thinking that we can’t even pull off a respectable place this year,” Daniel replied. “I think we should withdraw from the remaining races and spend the rest of the year and the off-season training up a new co-driver, someone I can really work with this time.”
“Did you have somebody in mind?” Jean-Paul asked. “Or should I look at the draft and see who’s available?”
“There was a kid who was co-driving in the J-WRC,” Daniel said. “A Canadian. Frank something. His career seemed to be taking off and then his team let him go. I liked what I saw of him before that.  And he was with a French-speaking team so he’s got to be at least conversational in French, which is good, since I doubt I could follow pace notes in English. Can you find out what happened and see if he’s available?”
Jean-Paul’s eyebrows lifted. “You’ve been thinking about this, haven’t you?”
“Yeah,” Daniel admitted. “I kept hoping we could make it through this season with a decent showing, but it isn’t going to happen, so I’d rather make the break now and come back strong for next year.”
“I’ll see what I can find out about your ‘kid’ and anyone else who might be available,” Jean-Paul said. “Tell Isabelle so she can let the crew know we’re packing up and heading back to Auvergne. We can spend the fall and winter there getting ready for next year. There are back roads there not even you have driven.”
“You keep telling yourself that,” Daniel said cockily, picking up his gear. “I’m going to talk to Isabelle and then get a shower.” He stopped when he reached the door, turning back to face the man who had been in charge of his career for the last five years. “Thanks for believing in me, Jean-Paul. I know that what happens out there on the road is ultimately my responsibility, and I appreciate you not blaming me for the rough season we’ve had.”
Jean-Paul smiled. “We expected this to be a shakedown year, with Christophe retiring last season and you having to find a new co-driver. We didn’t expect it to be quite as challenging as it’s been, but you’ve proven yourself. Second in the world last year, and by only a few points, is nothing to throw away. We’ll have more time to find a good match since we’re starting early now. Don’t worry. We’ll get this team back on track.”
Daniel summoned a smile in return, but it faded when the door closed behind him. Number two in the world last year, and not even ranked this year because he didn’t finish the season. Talk about a bitter pill to swallow. Jean-Paul could say what he wanted. Daniel knew he’d let a lot of people down with his record this year. He’d be okay because he brought in more money in a year, even an off year, than he could reasonably spend, but he had no idea what would happen to the mechanics on the team once they were all back in Auvergne and the car was ready to go. Isabelle could handle the maintenance on the training runs since they wouldn’t have the tight schedule of a rally. Unless he busted up completely like he’d done today, most of the mechanics would be sent home for the off-season. Usually, that was a matter of a month or two between the last rally in October or November and the first one in January or February, but it was only August now. Maybe he’d talk to Jean-Paul and see if something could be done for them. He wanted them to come back next year. Isabelle had talked several times about how well her team had worked together this year. If only he’d had as much luck with his team.
“Dany!”
He looked up and saw his sister and head mechanic rushing toward him. “Salut, p’tite sœur,” he said, catching her in a tight hug. “I’m fine. I promise, I’m fine.”
She glared up at him. “Did you let the EMTs look you over?”
“Isabelle, I’m fine,” Daniel insisted. “No pain in my neck, no limping, nothing.”
The fingers that dug into the muscle of his bicep were strong from working with cars all day and brooked absolutely no refusal. She marched him down the hall and out to the car. “If you won’t show sense, I’ll have to show it for you.”
Daniel tried to resist, but he’d never yet managed to break free of her claws once she had a grip on him.
Three hours later, X-rayed and poked at until he was ready to snap, Daniel walked back into the hospital waiting room. “I told you I was fine,” he said with a grin for his sister. “I’m always fine.”
“You keep saying that, you might actually get someone to believe you,” Isabelle retorted, punching the same spot on his arm where she’d dug her fingers in earlier.
Aïe! Did you have to hit me right there?”
“Yes,” Isabelle said with a grin. “Now come on. I want to know what you and Jean-Paul talked about for so long.”
“Let’s go back to the shop, and I’ll tell you,” Daniel promised. It would be easier to let his sister down there where she was surrounded by the cars she loved than it would be anywhere else. Damn, he hated this part.
Isabelle seemed to sense his mood because she dropped the sisterly hassling, driving to the shop in silence and parking outside the locked garage. She opened the side door and flipped on the lights, revealing what was left of the car he’d wrecked that afternoon as well as the spare car sitting beneath its tarp behind the first one. “I don’t need to pull the tarp off and tune up the other car, do I?”
Daniel shook his head. “I’m sorry, p’tite sœur,” he said. “We’re going back to Auvergne as soon as we can get packed up here. Jean-Paul is going to fire Xavier if he hasn’t already done it while I was at the hospital. We’ll start looking for someone to replace him. Someone better this time. Someone who can actually help me win instead of making me lose.”

My Personal Review for A Troubled Range by Andrew Grey

I have to admit I am a shameless groupie of this author and his books. From the first book I read of Mr. Grey's (The Best Revenge), I have fallen further and further under his spell with each subsequent release.

A Troubled Range is the sequel to A Shared Range and one that had me crying and smiling through the entire story. I thank god no one was home when I read this because frankly, they would wondered who died from all the tissues I was using up. *grins*

Meet Haven Jessup, the cowboy who lives next door to Dakota and Wally (you met Dakota, Wally and Phillip in the first book) for all his life and for the life of him, can not figure out why his dad hates the Holden's so much. Meeting Phillip Reardon was an unexpected treat after visiting Dakota and Wally. Haven is a man who has hidden his secret desires from everyone due to his father's opinions. With each page the reader is drawn into Phillip and Haven's sweet romance and man do the sparks fly between them. I was afraid my computer would start smoking from the sexual tension between the two.
A Troubled Range is a perfect story to heat up your afternoon with especially as it was gray and cold outside my window. A Troubled Range delivers  sexy cowboys, romance and mystery all rolled up within its pages. Andrew Grey has another winner with his follow up Range story and I, for one, want to know when he will be back to the wilds of Wyoming again. If you are looking for a sweet and sexy M/M Story to enjoy then grab A Troubled Range then settle back. It will be a hot and bumpy ride. I am eager to see what else this author has up his sleeve in the future.

My Personal Review for Crunch Time by Andrew Grey

I love Andrew Grey and I am not afraid to say it. *grins* I guess you can say I am one of his many fans and love the fact he creates some amazing character driven stories that completely captivate the reader from the first page.

Now my review of his latest book in the Gym series, CRUNCH TIME.

George Higgins never anticipates finding a forever love with anyone. He is content to teach his fourth grade students, work out with friends and have quiet nights. When he is asked to help out a soon to be former football player named Darren White, he thinks nothing will happen from it. To his surprise, Darren White is eager for his help and quite sexy to boot. Now in the midst of helping Darren, George is falling for one man who he thinks is out of his league.
Darren White needs help finding his way again in life. After a career ending injury leaves him adrift, he finds himself hoping that the television job is something he can do. With the help of George, Darren finds that he can have a new career if he can just trust himself-and George-to succeed. Falling in love with George never felt so good or so right.

CRUNCH TIME is one story that will leave you smiling in the end. It's a sweet, romantic story of two people who start out as teacher and student and falling for one another. Andrew Grey is one talented author who is a master at creating character driven stories that resonate with the readers. I love this author's writing. It's like coming home from a long time away to find you never really left. The writing is tight, storyline is fast paced and the characters are so realistic, you feel like you could meet them for coffee on any given day. There are some returning characters from prior Gym stories (Spot Me, Pump Me Up and Core Training) and had a few humorous moments that had me laughing out loud.

If you enjoy stories where the characters drive the story, then grab any of Andrew Grey's books. I can highly recommend any of them for an afternoon of reading pleasure. I can not wait to see what else this author has up his sleeve for his readers next in the future.

Guest Author Day with Julie Lynn Hayes

A big, warm welcome to Julie Lynn Hayes to my blog. I loved hearing about your interests and the upcoming book sounds divine. Without further Adieu, Ms. Julie Lynn Hayes.....

1. What do you write and why?

I write whatever interests me, no matter what the genre. I’ve primarily been published as a romance writer, m/m and m/f, but I also write YA and historical, and I like to blend genres. I have historical m/m novels, and my YA has definite elements of fantasy. I think I like to write romances because there is just something about them that gets to me, about people in love, something special. YA is something new that I wanted to try, and I’m a major geek when it comes to history—I love it and I want other people to love it too, and to realize it’s not stuffy or dry or boring at all, as many have been led to believe by less than competent teachers.

2. What do you read and why, especially if it's different from what you write?

I read a lot of manga, especially yaoi. Since I can’t draw for beans, I don’t see ever being able to write one. I read novels of all sorts. I’m especially addicted to Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Sherrilyn Kenyon, historical writers like James Michener, and I love true crime books.  I love Thomas Harris and think he created the best character ever in Hannibal Lecter. I want to create my own serial killer someday, which is a far reach from my romance novels, although Hannibal has his romantic moments; he’s an incredibly complex character.

3. What publisher(s) do you write for?

I write for Silver Publishing, Wicked Nights, and Dreamspinner Press.

4. How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for over forty years. My first story that I remember was when I was maybe nine, and was influenced by a book we were read in class about children having an adventure on an island, and it had dinosaurs in it. I was writing fanfiction before I ever heard of it or knew there was a name for what I was doing.  One of my first stories was about Peyton Place.  I think I just dated myself there lol

5. How do you world build?

I am working on a new series for Wicked Nights which does involve world building. I think I use the micro-to-macro approach. My world begins with the world we know, a what if scenario, and takes place in the year 2056 AD after a fictional even. I extrapolated how I envisioned things might change, and why, and took my characters and placed them in that new world, as being what they know, and then began. I’ve never built a totally new world, but would like to try that someday, whether fantasy or historical. I think world builders anchor their worlds, at least in their heads, on things that they do know, so there is a probable basis for reality in them if you know where to look for them.

6. Any tips for new writers hoping to write in the genre of your book?

I would tell new writers of any genre to read the genre, of course, but more importantly, rather than worrying about what others have done before you, do what your heart and brain tell you to do. Don’t be afraid to try something new. The important thing is to develop your voice, what makes you  unique. And then tell the story you want to tell, regardless of genre.

7. How do you build characters and their personalities and looks?

Sometimes characters leap into my head as fully formed personalities, but other times I have to get to know them through their actions. I have trouble with descriptions, so I get a general idea of what my character looks like and then I start “shopping” online for someone who fits that mold, and when I find that perfect one, I use that pic as a model that I can refer to.  It helps immeasurably, rather than having a faceless image in my head.  Not to mention, searching through pictures of hot guys is far from boring!

8. Tell me about some of your heroes and heroines:

My characters are a diverse group, I think.  Max is a 44 year old gay werewolf, in a long term committed relationship, who really just wants to get along with people, but the world isn’t necessarily making that possible for him. Fisher Roberts is a practical guy who writes articles for an online magazine and lives with his best friend whom he secretly loves, but he doesn’t believe that happily ever after exists, or that dreams can come true—yet.  Damien is a young Frenchman in turn-of-the-century Paris, adopted son of a group of twelve artists, a beautiful young man who is about to have his coming out party at the Moulin Rouge. He is sweet and charming and hedonistic and yet innocent—an evil Fate places him beyond the reach of everyone except for his one true love, whomever that might be.

Those are just a few of the heroes that I have. I have a YA heroine named Desiree who’s just lost her mother and is stuck under the guardianship of an older brother who is rather controlling. I have a handsome Italian priest named Sergio who is trying to help people get their lives back, after the devastation that has occurred in the future, and now he’s about to meet his match in the spoiled rich boy who’s been sent to do community service in the help center known as Sanctum.  I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea, there are a lot of them!

9. Are you a pantser or plotter?

I am a definite pantser. I begin with a character and an idea of what is currently happening, but I don’t plot ahead, except in vague terms of things I know will happen. But I like to think of my writing as organic: it grows with the characters, naturally, and it isn’t forced. I think that when you try to force things that is when you get into trouble, and your plots come off as contrived.

10. What's your latest release and tell me about it:

I have a release coming out April 30th, from Silver Publishing: Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire.  It’s about my practical Fisher Roberts, and his long time best friend Hunter Long, aka the man he secretly loves. They are almost opposites in temperament—Fisher is sensible, Hunter is fun-loving and playful; Fisher hates holidays and Hunter revels in them, especially Halloween. It’s the night before Halloween, and Fisher has agreed to go to a party with Hunter. Worse yet, it’s a costume party. And it’s at the home of one of Hunter’s exes. Things go from bad to worse, including an unexpected kiss, and Fisher finds himself in a situation far beyond his usual scope and has to sort out fact from fiction, and decide if he’s ready to lose Hunter forever.

11. What genre haven’t you tried, yet, that you would love to explore?

I want to explore Regency romances. I plan to write one, but haven’t started yet, being cowardly. I do love a good Regency, I’m a sucker for a man with a title. My favorite character in the movie Moulin Rouge is the Duke. Go figure.  I’d like to try both m/f and m/m Regency, cause there aren’t too many of the latter, I think.
12. If you could take one of your characters out on the town, which would it be and what would you do?

13. Favorite naughty dessert and decadent drink.

I love ice cream, the more chocolate the better.  So I think I’ll say Ben & Jerry’s Pfish Food.  As for drink – either Hot Sex, or a Dreamsicle, made with ice cream.

14. If we looked on your bookshelf right now, what are some of the titles we would find?

I have about five bookcases, actually, not to mention the books that are just piled around on tables.  No, make that five and a half bookcases (one small one). I have, just to name some: 8 volumes of Kizuna, a ton of Stephen King, Preston and Child, most of the Dune books, Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut, I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.

Sneak Peek into  Leonardo Di Caprio is a Vampire
Coming to Silver Publishing April 30th

Blurb: Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire
“Tis the night before Halloween, and Fisher Roberts wishes it was over, not being a fan of this or any other holiday.  But he tolerates it because his roommate/best friend Hunter Long takes a childish glee in all things Halloween.  And Fisher has a vested interest in keeping Hunter happy.  If only he could find the nerve to tell his childhood friend that he loves him, and has for a very long time.
Fisher thinks Hunter is carrying things a bit far this year, though.  First Hunter claims to be a vampire, and he just won’t let the silly joke go.  Then he forces Fisher to go to a costumed Halloween party which Fisher would rather avoid, especially when he realizes where it’s being held, and whose house it is. Things at Fisher’s job might just be going south, too, when he receives a mysterious summons to report to the editor’s office the next morning.  And then Fisher goes and does something stupid—like kissing Hunter!
Bad leads to worse when Fisher ends up at the Halloween party from Hell, and he learns something that threatens to destroy his and Hunter’s relationship forever.  Running from his fears, Fisher encounters a strange young man with an unusual resemblance to Leonardo di Caprio, who shows him things he never realized before, truths about his life and the people in it.
Can Fisher find his way back to Hunter, and can he find the courage to do what his heart wishes?

Excerpt:  Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire
“Did you know that Leonardo di Caprio is a vampire?”
Fisher Roberts stopped in mid-chew of a mouthful of fibrous cereal to cast a wary, disbelieving glance at his best friend and roommate Hunter Long on the other side of the table.  Wary, because he wondered what in the world Hunter was going on about so early in the morning.  Disbelieving, because he only had so much time for breakfast before he had to get going to work, and he had a bad feeling that Hunter was trying to eat into that time.  Why he wanted to do that was beyond Fisher.  Of course, a lot of things about his roommate were beyond Fisher, despite the fact that they’d been friends since they were—well, too young to actually remember how long they’d known each other.  But for as long as Fisher could remember, he and Hunter had been best buddies.  And he’d learned over the years that, with Hunter, longevity did not equate to knowledge-ability, far from it.
Now, Fisher could react in one of two ways.  He could ignore his roommate and keep eating.  Pretend he’d heard nothing.  But from past experience, that would only cause Hunter’s performance to escalate.  Which would entail taking more time to decipher what he was saying, and in the process make Fisher even later to work.   Or he could simply bow down to the inevitable and give in by asking him the question he was doubtless waiting to hear.  Even if it brought about that smug smirk he was so fond of wearing.
Fisher finished chewing, swallowed, and managed not to roll his eyes as he reached for his juice to kill off what was left in the glass.  Waste not, want not.  “What do you mean?”
Hunter Long might be six foot two and possessed of a body that many a male model would kill for—at least that’s what Fisher heard the girls who flocked around him say—with the palest of blue eyes that twinkled all the time, and a smile that could and did light up a room.  But honestly, he had the capacity to be an overgrown child at times, and this was one of those times.  Fisher chalked it up to it being that time of year.
“Well,” Hunter replied, “look at him, going on forty, and he looks just like he did what, fifteen years ago?  It only stands to reason he must be a vampire.  They never age, you know.  I mean take a look at us.  We’re almost his age, but over the years we’ll grow up to be little old men and he’ll still be playing sweet baby-faced guys even when he’s collecting social security, know what I mean?”
“There are no such things as vampires,” Fisher made his typical logical reply, “and just because it’s Halloween tomorrow night, and you’ve got the house all decorated for it, doesn’t mean you have to bring it to the table.  Know what I mean?”  He arched a no-nonsense brow at the other man.  This was not Fisher’s favorite time of year.  Neither was Christmas, come to think of it.  Or any other holiday.  Ironic that he should write articles for a living that meant he was forced to expound on such seasonal topics for Midwest Home and Fantasy, a regional online magazine with a growing fan-base, when he had no real interest in them himself, being a practical, no-nonsense kind of a guy.
“I’m a vampire.” Hunter smiled, leaning across the table toward Fisher.  “Want to see my fangs?”

Guest Author Day with C. Zampa

1. What do you write and why? At this time, I’m writing m/m romance. Why? On an m/m author’s loop, a challenge was issued to write a 500 word story about two gay men involving whipped cream. (Yes, I know, I know). I participated in the challenge and—there it was—the budding of my first m/m romance. The characters sprouted into a contemporary suspense/romance, Candy G., which was accepted by Dreamspinner Press.

2. What do you read and why, especially if it's different from what you write? I read everything. You know the old ‘I-read-everything-I-can-get-my-hands-on-even-the-encyclopedia? Well, that’s me. But my favorites to read? I love noir fiction such as James Ellroy, Raymond Chandler, Mafia and gangster fiction. Why? Not sure, maybe in a past life I was a gangster’s moll? I can’t get enough bios of film stars from the Golden Age—the silents through fifties.

3. What publisher(s) do you write for? At this time, I write for Dreamspinner Press.

4. How long have you been writing? For as long as I can remember. But seriously writing? For about three years.

5. How do you world build? What a good question! My novella, Candy G, was easy. It was directly drawn from my hometown, a small suburban town just outside Houston (which I moved to San Antonio for the story). But my other work is usually 30’s-40’s-50’s New York and Hollywood. And the fiction world in which my stories are set just seem to build themselves around the characters. The eras are so alive to me, as I drink in fiction and non-fiction of the settings from reading and films.

6. Any tips for new writers hoping to write in the genre of your book? To treat the genre, or any genre, with respect. It seems to be a growing trend, and just be careful not to jump on the m/m train just because it’s popular. Take it seriously. It can be a sensitive subject, and—while hot sex is very marketable—m/m writing is not as simple as substituting men for women, emotionally or physically in the stories.

7. How do you build characters and their personalities and looks? Well, for one thing, I don’t cling to Alpha/Beta guidelines. My characters just build themselves. I have a tendency, which I’m trying to break, for all my men to be big, dark-haired, bedroom-eyed Italian/Latinos. Why? Because that’s my personal fondness. But I’ve tried to break this habit by ‘birthing’ characters in my head from unconventional non-beauties from the films—Russell Crowe, for instance. What a challenge to take an ordinary man and make him extraordinary. The possibilities are endless.
And female characters? Opposites attract, or so they do for me. I love, love, love pairing the males with their polar opposites. My female characters usually spawn from the male’s personality—created to compliment his chemistry. And, to me, chemistry is all important. It’s crucial. I don’t aim for my females to be beauties, either, at least physically. I let them create their own beauty from inside, and through the hero’s eyes.

8. Tell me about some of your heroes and heroines: The hero in Candy G is the former attorney for a powerful drug lord. An intimidating presence on the outside, a softy Latino romantic on the inside. For my current WIP, the hero is a cool, imposing Italian businessman with underworld ties. My favorite heroine is fashioned after my idol, Katharine Hepburn. Feisty, a mix of balls and guts and femininity.

9. Are you a pantser or plotter? Both. I have a basic plot for every story, but cannot, not matter how hard I try, stay within the boundaries of an outline.

10. What's your latest release and tell me about it: Candy G is a m/m contemporary suspense romance, set in San Antonio. Candelario Gonzalez has resigned as the exclusive legal counsel for the most powerful drug lord in the area, driven by his conscience. He befriends and falls for a gorgeous street-wise young man named Carlos Alvarez. When he learns Carlos has a secret, Candy fights with everything in him not to let his dream world with Carlos fall apart.

11. What genre haven’t you tried, yet, that you would love to explore? Paranormal/shifters. I’m intrigued by shifters stores—so primal, sensual. And is seems the author can create unconventional worlds where the sky’s the limit in imagination.

12. If you could take one of your characters out on the town, which would it be and what would you do? Oh, easy. Not Candy, he’s gay. But my dream man, the character after my own heart, Salvatore Giancomo. We would eat a cozy, candle-lit Italian restaurant overlooking the city lights, then he would take me to a fancy hotel and we would make love, and make love, and make love. And…

13. Favorite naughty dessert and decadent drink. Oh, I am SO not fancy in this department. Dessert? Anything chocolate and creamy. I’m not familiar with decadent drinks, just love my margaritas.

14. If we looked on your bookshelf right now, what are some of the titles we would find? Ah! LA Confidential, Black Dahlia, and many other books by James Ellroy; tons of film star bios of the Golden Age, particularly the 1920’s; m/m novels by Z. A. Maxfield, Pat Brown; classics; scads of Laura Kinsale romances.

15. Where can we find you on the internet?

 Sneak Peek into Candy G
Available at Dreamspinner Press HERE

Blurb:
What kind of man drives a bulletproof Mercedes and carries a high-powered pistol in the glove compartment along with his boyhood teddy bear? Candy G does, that's who. Once the exclusive attorney for the most powerful drug lord in San Antonio, he turned his back on Teirso Flores and walked away. But at what price?

Moving on with his life despite the threat of Teirso’s revenge, Candy meets gorgeous, street-wise Carlos Alvarez, and thus begins a passionate love affair rife with secrets, danger and specters from the past that just won’t let go. When truths are revealed, will the one thing that brought their worlds together be the test that strengthens their love or the knife that severs their bond forever?

Excerpt
“I have something for you, chico.” Reaching across the table, I handed the box to him. How clumsy I felt. Romance ruled my heart but never showed itself very well in my actions. I felt I was too old-world for a contemporary man such as Carlos. Just as his fingers touched the lid to open it, I blurted, “You’ll probably laugh, Carlos. It’s… it’s…. You might think it’s silly.”

Upon opening the box, his hand shot to his chest, and he swallowed hard. “Candy….”

“It is silly, isn’t it?”

“Oh, no, no.” His mouth gaped open, and he brushed a hand through his hair. Shaking his head slowly, he whispered, “It’s… it’s… a dove. It’s the most—”

“Listen, you don’t have to—”

Carlos bounded from his chair and cornered the table so fast I didn’t have time to react. With his arms wrapped around my neck, he pulled me close, and I breathed in his spicy, earthy scent.

“You like it, then?” I wanted to cry, I was so happy that he was pleased.

Pulling back, his arms still circling my neck, he sighed. “I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my life, Candy.” His voice, so low, caressing, whispered close to my ear, “I love you so fucking much, Candelario Gonzalez. I love you so goddamn much.”

The sidewalk was crowded with customers, and they surely gawked at us, but I didn’t care. Love for Carlos gushed from my heart, and all I wanted to do, needed to do, was hold him, touch his lips. Although the thoughts that swirled in my soul were passionate and lyrical, the words that spilled from my mouth were idiotic. “So I don’t need to take it back? Well, it was custom made, and—”

“I love it, cariño.” Oblivious to curious gazes, he pressed his lips, which tasted of salty tears, to mine. “I love it so much.” He straightened and leaned back against the table.

“Then you’ll wear it for me tonight?” I rested my hand on his waist.

“I’ll wear it for you tonight.” Hunger darkened his eyes, softened his voice. “Let’s eat fast, then, so we can—”

“Nah, chico.”

“No?” He cocked his head to the side.

“Nah. I reserved a room at Mansion Del Rio.”

Excitement sparked in his eyes. “Ah.”

My sexual juices were stirring, my cock swelling, at the vision of making love to Carlos high above the river with the nightlife pulsing below us. “Would you like that?”

Squinting, he eyed me. “Can I order a banana split from room service in the middle of the night?”

How could he turn even the word banana split into an aphrodisiac? Dios, how my dick ached.

“You can order anything you want in the middle of the night.”

“Can I order you to fuck me in the middle of the night?”

“You can.” Resisting the urge to pull him onto my lap, I growled, “But by the middle of the night, mi amor, you may be begging me to stop fucking you.”
