Meet debut author, Katie Alexander

Please give a warm welcome to my friend and new author, Katie Alexandre. She, along with her writing partner, Kelli Lee Mosley, created a wonderful story called Another Chance. Let's get to know Katie and see who the person is behind the author name.

Katie, welcome to Dawn's Reading Nook Blog. Please take a seat and let Sinn and Damon pamper you.

Why don't you start us off by telling us how you discovered/decided you wanted to become a writer?
I think it started when I was a kid and my grandma would call me a day dreamer.  Maybe I was just thinking of stories I wanted to write someday.

Do you have a favorite TV show you can't miss?
I don’t watch that much TV anymore but if I did the show I couldn’t miss would have to have been Dirty Jobs or Deadliest Catch. I used to watch them religiously.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?
I think that it might be a combination of both.  In the beginning I tried to write everything in order but my characters didn’t want to work that way. Instead I write what they tell me and when.  Plus, having a writing partner meant that we could work on certain areas of the book that each of us excelled in.

So what is your latest or upcoming book about? Give us all the details behind this masterpiece.
Masterpiece, huh?  I hope so. Lol Our latest release which is also our very first is about a woman named Megan that dreamt of having a family but her husband saw things differently and the marriage ended.  Now she is home again trying to heal and get on with her life but life being life, it sends her a curve ball aka Grayson. Love him!

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write? Considering that my first ever love scene was in this book, I would have to say it was hard at first.  That was the one thing that kept me at a loss.  I finally bit the bullet and wrote the first one but ended up editing it a few times but it did get easier.  I think that love scenes are really important in romance because that is the point where your two main characters are truly connecting on not just a physical level but also on a spiritual level.

Who are some of your favorite authors, and if we were to visit your home, what books would we find on your bookshelf, end table, floor or e-reader?
My taste in stories and authors is very eclectic to say the least. I like Susan Elizabeth Phillips and her football series, Cherise Sinclair and her Shadowlands series. I am reading Cherise Sinclair’s latest right now. My bookshelf is crammed of books that I still need to read that range from sweet romance to erotica.  I like them both and everything in between.  I think it just depends on what kind of mood I am in. *Gasp* books are never found on the floor here.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?
Is this from my book or any other book? If it is mine that would be an easy answer, Grayson. I love love him and would grab him in a heartbeat. Lol If it is from another book than it would have to be Kyrian from the Dark Hunters series. He is sexy, wears leather, drives fast cars and has fangs.  What’s not to love?

Could you tell us about any work-in-progress, current projects, what we can expect from you in the future?
Kelli and I are trying to work on book two that follows Another Chance.  Dylan has his turn in this book and to say it is interesting is an understatement. I am also working on something on my own but it is on pause right now. It will be a paranormal romance when I finish my hero keeps arguing with me on what he should be.

A biography has been written about you. What do you think the title would be?
Well, it’s about time…

Have you ever found that you didn’t like your Hero or your Heroine? If so, what did you do to change that?
Well, that would be a BIG yes. Grayson kept coming up either too stalkerish (if that is a word) or was a wus.  It was hard to get that combination right.  I think I finally did with him and Kelli finally liked him and stopped telling me to give him a set.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
I like to unwind with a book after the kids are in bed. I also like beading now. I have made a few pieces of earrings and necklaces and have really enjoyed it. You can just shut everything off while you adding beads to a piece of string.

Is there a genre you haven’t done that you would like to explore in the future?
I love paranormal so that is my next genre to try. I have something in the works but the hero isn’t cooperating.  I hope I can do it justice.

W
hat was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
It surprised me to find out how much went into making the actual book. You don’t think of edits and the cover when you are writing it.  You just think of the characters and nothing more.  We were lucky that we found a great publisher that took care of us and walked us through.

What is your favorite candy bar?
Snickers

When you looked in the mirror this morning, what was the first thing you thought?
Should I color my roots?

What is your favorite pizza?
I like pizza with everything.

What genres and authors would we find you reading when taking a break from your own writing?
I like all types of genres but it has to be in romance at least. My taste in authors varies also and I am always trying new ones or getting recommendations from my friends and family.

If I was a first time reader of your books, which one would you recommend I start with and why?
Another Chance because it is my one and only. lol

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?
That I am just a girl who had a dream of writing and made it come true with a little help from a great friend.

Megan Mason had a fabulous family, a wonderful husband, amazing friends, a great job and a beautiful home. All she needed was a baby to make her life complete. Little did she know, however, that asking her husband for a child would end her marriage. Suffering the ultimate betrayal, Megan returns to her childhood home to rebuild her life.

Grayson Burke had it all. His family’s construction company was financially sound business was booming. He loved his job and better yet, he worked with two of his best friends.  To an outsider looking in, Grayson's life probably seemed perfect.  But in reality, Grayson's dream woman wasn't only married to someone else, she was his buddies little sister which meant she was untouchable in every sense of the word.

When Grayson learns that Megan is headed home, everything in his world seems to flip upside down.  There's no way he could ever approach a woman whose life has been destroyed.  Right?  And besides, his friends would kill him.  Wouldn't they?
PG-13 excerpt:
Megan closed the last of the suitcases she'd strewn every which way all over the bedroom floor.  Looking around the empty room, it was easy to remember what once had been.  The bed sat on the right facing the French doors, and curtains in the same matching sage and purple hues as the bedding dressed the doors and the windows.  On her dresser, a collection of perfume bottles sat upon  a silver framed mirror along with a matching hairbrush and comb.  Everything in the room had been perfect.  Now everything Megan owned was in boxes, all of which were on their way to their new home.   Most of the bedroom furniture belonged to her Megan's grandmother.  After the older woman passed, her furniture, along with many other sentimental belongings in the house in Idaho, were left to Megan.  Things that meant so little to anyone else meant the world to Megan.  Her ex husband, Alan, certainly never liked any of them and he never bothered to keep his opinions about it to himself either.  He was always saying her old things were never as good as anything brand new and why would she want that old crap anyway.  Calling Megan's sentimental mementos crap upset her greatly, but what could she do?  Alan was her husband.  She tried to understand that he wanted to create a new life and her antique family treasures weren't part of the image he wanted for himself or his wife.
Megan walked to the French doors and stepped out onto the patio.  The impatients and roses that lined the iron balcony were still there and their petals were almost too bright in the morning sun.  Pinks, purples and yellows bloomed all around her and the fragrance in the air made her breathe in deeply.  The smell would always remind her of working in the garden with her grandmother. Since the flowers wouldn't make the trip across the country, Megan decided to leave them behind.  Looking out at the backyard one more time, Megan felt a bit lost.  The garden is where she's always found peace.  It was where she hid from her problems.  And Lord knew her marriage seemed to be littered with more problems than she could've escaped in a lifetime. Megan's grandma always said that if you needed to think out a problem, it was better to do it elbow deep in dirt.  Maybe that was why the garden always looked so good.  Getting dirty didn't solve everything, but it gave her an escape from reality through the troubled years.  When the tears threatened to fall, she turned and went back inside.  Megan closed the doors and turned the lock.  Too bad there wasn't a way to lock the memories away too.
It was easy to think that back then life was solid and calm.  But who was she kidding?  Life then had been hell and Megan needed to keep reminding herself of that each time she felt like giving up.  If she didn't, she'd never follow through with her plans to start over.
Megan's marriage had been rocky from the beginning.  She'd just finished college in Boise when she had met Alan Mason.  The man was too beautiful--blond hair and baby blue eyes that had the power to mesmerize Megan.  He was tall and had a lean runner's body.  He was sophisticated and knew exactly what to say to Megan to get her to drop her guard. It didn't even take him a week to get her into bed.  That alone should have been a red flag but Megan ignored it along with all the other signs that seem to point to the fact that trouble seemed to follow Alan Mason.

Corbin Cansey will love the daylights out of Bella McDermott. That is, just as soon as he gets around to it. Corbin has been running from Bella since she was a teenager, and he’s been looking the other way since she became old enough to win his heart.

The trouble is, Bella is tired of waiting. She follows Corbin to a San Antonio rodeo and watches as he indulges in a few sex-related activities. Green with envy, Bella realizes it’s time to teach Corbin a few valuable lessons about loving a woman.

Bella gives Corbin a good taste of what he’s been dishing up—a stout dose of jealousy. And even though her plan is destined to fail, her notions are guaranteed to make a man twitch in his Wranglers, assuming he can keep them pulled up where they belong.

Story Excerpt:

Corbin knew he’d drawn a bad bull. He’d sort of had an uneasy feeling earlier that day when he’d first arrived at the fairgrounds, but after he’d held Bella in his arms, everything changed.
She gave him strength. She made him believe in himself and his abilities. If Corbin listened to some of the whispers around him, staying on Captain Crazy was next to impossible, but for some reason he felt like a man who was about to take the best ride of his life.
Tucking his gloved hands under the rope, Corbin realized all eyes were on him. Hell, half the fans were on their feet, acting like they were getting ready to watch a cowboy’s last rodeo. He hated it when these situations happened. Half the time, a bull’s reputation made a loser out of a cowboy. When the crowd seemed to stand behind the bull rather than the man riding him, well, it just seemed like the odds stacked up against a fella.
Corbin searched the stands, found the large letter A, and dropped his gaze down, looking straight across the arena into the brilliant-blue sparkling, and quite watered down, eyes of the woman he loved. He tilted his hat and slapped his chest.
Bella was his heart. The rodeo was his job.
“You’re good to go,” Travis assured him, helping Corbin lower himself atop the angry bull that would either make or break him in this competition. “You got this, Corbin.”
Corbin swung his gaze toward Bella, one last time. “You’re damn straight I got this.” Smiling wide, he raised his right arm and his head and shoulders flew back. “Okay, fellas! Let’s see if this bull can give a good ride!”

Guest Author Day with Ryssa Edwards

First, tell us a little about you and what you do.
What I do? Ummm. . a girl’s got to have some secrets. Actually, by day I work for a really big company. By night, I meet interesting people, and all but bribe them to tell me their life story and let me follow them around. I call these people “characters”, and I write down their stories. They get into some pretty scary situations, and sometimes (*insert guilty blush*), I push their backs up against the wall and . . . see what happens. It’s fun. It keeps me off the streets and (mostly) out of trouble.

What do you like to read?
Books. Kidding. I like reading stories. If you can tell a good story, I’ll read it. Right now, I’m on a short story kick, so I’ve been hanging around with folks like Ambrose Bierce, Stephen King, Ian Fleming and H. P. Lovecraft. My yardstick for reading is whether or not a writer can pull me in right from the first sentence. I’m a tough reader. If your story can’t completely grab me in the first paragraph, you lose a few points on my ‘story scale’. I’m just as tough on myself. My goal is to write a story that my reader can’t walk away from; not even for a page, or a paragraph. . . or a sentence. ‘

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Oh my gosh. Tough question. I know it sounds cliché, but the best advice I can give is . . .write!
Write all the time. Even if you don’t’ have a pen in your hand. If you something makes you stop and go, “Wow. That’s interesting.” Ask yourself why? What caught your attention? How would get someone else to see it the way you did? Over time, these little observations will make it into your characters and your worlds.
When you get a rejection letter, (and you’ll get lots)look at it this way, you’re one step closer to getting published.

Did I say write? Buy a notebook. Take it everywhere. Ladies, get a purse-size notebook. Guys. . . I don’t know what to tell you. Got ten extra minutes in your day? Then you’ve got time to write daily. Pick a good exercise book. One of my favorites is A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves. I just started Writing Down the Bones. The exercises are tough, but you get a lot out of them. I’m working my way through The 4 A. M. Breakthrough by Brian Kiteley. I love this one!  I can’t finish each exercise in ten minutes, but if I stay with one exercise all week, then that’s fifty minutes of exercises in a week.
And my last bit of advice . . . don’t stop. You know those times when your internal editor is all over you? Keep writing. That voice never goes away, but if you keep going, one day you’ll get to prove them wrong.

What’s your latest release?

My Personal Review for Serving of Love by Andrew Grey

I love Andrew Grey's work. The connection between characters, the lyrical way he delivers a story that is full of friendship and romance, it takes your breath away whenever you pick up one of his books. In his latest release, A Serving of Love (out May 23rd), we are treated to a story of two people who find they are just perfect for one another.

Meet Sebastian Franklin. He works at Café Belgie as front house manager and though people may think he is a party man, he actually enjoys quiet night’s home. Meeting Robert Fortier was something of a surprise one night and this begins a friendship that turns to something much more. But Robert has just finally accepted he is gay and is quite reluctant to let anyone in his life romantically. Well that is until he meets Sebastian and finds himself falling for the young man-hard.Can these two find a way to make a relationship work between them even as Sebastian's ex and their own issues crop up to derail them?

Mr. Grey does it again with A Serving of Love. It is a heartfelt story of two people finding they are perfect for one another even as they are as different as apples are to oranges. Mr. Grey makes it work as Sebastian and Robert find themselves falling in love even as events swirl around them that could leave them both heartbroken or deliriously happy. The writing was tight, story flowed smoothly and yes, Darryl and Billy are back as well as a few new characters to enjoy.

I love how Mr. Grey delivers character rich stories that leave you smiling in the end. With each page, I was invested more and more into Sebastian and Robert's relationship, got angry over certain idiots (have to read the story sorry guys) and rooted for them to get their happily ever after. They do say opposites attract and this is the perfect case for it. I loved how the differences between the main characters were not the main bone of contention between them as they explore a relationship together. Mr. Grey is a talented writer when he delivers a story that had a few serious issues involved in the storyline. I felt it enhanced the story instead of taking it over and making it too heavy of a read.

If you are looking for a perfect beach read, this is the right book to take with you. A Serving of Love delivers hours of reading enjoyment, delightful characters to root for and a romance that will leave you aching for more. If you haven't read A Taste of Love, I highly recommend reading it first but this can be read as a standalone story if you haven't. Mr. Grey delivers another perfect story to enjoy and I cannot wait to see what else he has up his sleeve for his beloved readers. If you love character rich stories that make you feel like you are home, then pick up one of this author's books. You won't be disappointed.

My rating for A Serving of Love: 4 Stars

Guest Author Day with Anna James/Contest

CONTEST: Comment either here on on my book review for Guilty as Charged post to be entered to win one of Anna's books. Contest ends Friday at Midnight (EST).

I’m Anna James, author of contemporary romance stories and I invite you come with me and get lost in a world filled with passion, drama and romance.

I have three books currently available. Here is a little taste of my most recent release, Coming Home, to whet your appetite:

Blurb:
Two years ago, Christine Kincaid found her sister, Andrea, in the arms of her fiancé, James Buchanan. This after Andrea confessed to having an affair with James and being pregnant with his child. Distraught and wanting to escape the pain of James’s betrayal, Christine fled her home, just outside of Washington D.C., to London, England, her birthplace.
As startling details of her parents’ tragic romance come to light, Christine now suspects she was deceived by Andrea and is determined to return home and win James back. Only James seems to hate her now. She’d known that it wouldn’t be easy. She’d hurt him deeply by leaving. But she believed that somehow he’d forgive her and they would finally be together. Why did he have such a bad opinion of her? And what was she going to do to make him see that he was wrong?
James Buchanan was devastated when his fiancée deserted him. He had thought they would be together forever. But he’d been wrong. Christine didn’t care about him. She didn’t care about anyone but herself. If she had, she’d never have left him to pursue her career. But what really bothered him was how he’d been so wrong about her. Christine had been sweet and loving to him, but the way she treated her sister was just awful. Andrea, who was alone and pregnant, had needed Christine’s love, understanding and support.  All Christine could do was condemn her for her mistakes and leave her to fend for herself.  How could he have ever loved someone who could treat her own sister that way? And what was he going to do now that she was back?

Excerpt:
Prologue
The night security man greeted her warmly as Christine entered the building. She felt a pang of regret for not even acknowledging the man as she rushed past him on her way toward the row of elevators located at the far end of the lobby. She stabbed the call button and waited anxiously for the elevator to arrive. I need to speak to James now. I need him to reassure me that things Andrea said today are not true. James loves you, she told herself fiercely. Andrea is lying. She has to be.
All right, so things aren’t that great between us right now, she acknowledged ruefully. They haven’t been for a while. Not since they’d had that horrible argument after his trip to California. There was so much tension between them when they were together and James was so distant, downright cold at times. We haven’t made love in weeks, her mind tormented further. It doesn’t mean he’s in love with Andrea, she denied furiously.
The elevator arrived and she stepped in. As it moved upward her mind drifted back to the conversation she’d had with Andrea, her sister, earlier that day. ‘He loves me now’, she’d said. ‘You had your chance but you were too focused on your career... James is a fabulous lover. He made passionate love to me when we were at that conference in California, he couldn’t help himself,’ she had delighted in saying. James is the father of my baby.
No! Her mind screamed again in denial. Until you hear it straight from James you can’t believe anything she says. You know she would do anything to split us up.
The elevator car stopped and the doors opened on the top floor. Christine took a deep breath and stepped out. James’s office was just down the hall to the left.
She could hear muffled sounds coming from his office as she approached and paused just before she reached the door. Who was in there with him at this time of night?  It was late; well after ten o’clock.
“It’s okay, Andrea. Don’t worry. Everything is going to be okay,” he said.
Christine stepped into the open doorway and froze in horror. Andrea was in James’s arms, sobbing. He was holding her—so close—she acknowledged painfully as tears welled in her eyes.
“I am not going to let you go through this alone. I’ll be there for you every step of the way. You can count on me, Andrea. I promise.”
“What about Christine?” Andrea cried.
“I will deal with Christine,” James said with chilling finality, and then lifted Andrea’s head from where it rested on his chest and gave her a gentle kiss. “I promise, Andrea. I will be there for you. I won’t let you down.”
Christine gasped. James looked up. Their eyes collided and Christine knew the truth. She turned and ran as if all the demons of hell were chasing her.

Welcome Cornelia Amiri

Can you tell us a little about how you started writing; was it something you have always wanted to do?
I wrote as a child and always wanted to be an author but strange as it seems, the Celtic Warrior Queen, Boudica is the reason I began writing seriously, with intent to submit to publishers. I love history, and in reading a book about the dark ages, I came across Boudica. She inspired me so, I jotted down notes, but they were fiction (it-must-have-happened-like-this type). Before I knew it, I had written a novel. I thought, gosh I can really do this. So after accidentally writing that novel, I wrote one on purpose, which was my first published book, The Fox Prince.

What do you consider to be the key elements of a great story?
As a reader and a writer, strong characterizations are most important to me. Also, both as a writer and a reader, I like interesting settings and unusual periods or events in history.

Could you tell us a little about how you develop your characters? Who has been your favorite character to write? The most challenging?
I fill out character charts for my heroes and heroines, which includes their deepest fears, biggest dreams, family history, and everything else you need to know to bring someone alive for the reader. It’s hard to say who I most enjoyed writing about but Margaid from A Fine Cauldron of Fish remains one of my favorites as she is patterned after my good friend Helgie. So I had a lot of fun writing about her. I would say my most challenging was Mocha Mong Ruad in Queen of Kings. I usually only use real historical persons as secondary characters but my heroine in Queen Of Kings is based on the real bronze age queen, the only woman listed as a high king of Ireland. She was challenging to write about as I wanted to keep her legendary, bigger than life qualities and make her real and fleshed out at the same time. Adding romance and giving her someone to love enabled me to do that.

Have you ever found that you didn’t like your Hero or your Heroine? If so, what did you do to change that?
I have never found that I disliked any of my heroes or heroines, but when writing dialogue for Druid Bride, my hero and heroine’s genuine disregard for Romans with no regrets in killing them in battle, surprised me.  Then I looked at the characters I had created and I realized their attitude made sense as they both grew up as children of war. My heroine, Tanwen had not only her family but her entire tribe exterminated by the Romans and the same thing had happed to her mother’s tribe. And my hero Brude grew up as the son of a chief who was the second generation watching the travesties Rome inflicted on Britannia, including the destruction of the Druid center of Learning, their religious school, destroyed twice. I understood that the reaction was correct to the personal history and times they had experienced and I accepted their viewpoint as accurate to the characters I had developed.

Can you tell me a bit about your most recent/upcoming release?
I always wanted to write something set in the late 60’s or early 70’s so I chose the prime setting for that period, the Woodstock Art and Music festival of 1969. Jodi’s life is changed forever by the magic of music and romance during the summer of 69.  Jodi thumbs her way to Woodstock to groove on peace, love, and music, but even in her wildest dreams she never expects to find anyone like Blue the moment Blue spots Jodi strutting toward him barefoot in the rain, he's overcome with déjà vu. She doesn’t believe his tale that they’ve were lovers in a previous life and thinks he must be half crazy. But amid the music and freedom of Woodstock the fiery passion she feels for him is unleashed.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
I love to watch movies and I also love playing with my cat and my four year old granddaughter. And I love to read in the bathtub

Is there a genre you haven’t done that you would like to explore in the future?
I’ve written short stories in straight non- romance horror, mystery, and fantasy. In romance, I mainly write Celtic and Steampunk romances but I have written contemporary romance and a romance set in ancient Mesopotamia. I have not interest at the moment to pursue any other genres but you never know when the muse calls, I have to follow.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant.
That would be any restaurant where at a candlelight dinner I’m supping on delicious food and sipping rich wine as I dine with a passionate heroic type gentleman, who is charismatic, charming, and honorable and cares about, protects, and helps others.

Do you listen to music when writing? Do you feel like some stories write themselves a soundtrack with specific music? If so, what book and what kind of music influenced it?
I like Celtic music a great deal and folk and rock but for whatever reason, I write best while listening to anything from Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen. Sometimes in my writing I hear the characters sing rather than speak, in Danger Is Sweet I wrote lyrics for a song the hero sings to the heroine and I wrote lyrics for a song about Boudica’s bravery sung by druids in two of my books, Druid Quest and Druid Bride.

Plotter or Pantser? Why?
I’m a bit in between a plotter and a panster. Once I have my idea (my premise), I pick a plot to go with it. Then I work up character charts on the hero and heroine, which include information on their family history and their likes and dislikes. Then, with a fairly good idea about the beginning and ending in my head, I begin the rough draft.

What is your favorite meal?
Since I was six years old my favorite meal has been spaghetti and meat balls and it remains so to this day.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
I find love scenes difficult, after ten years of writing romance books, I feel I write better love scenes now then in my first books but they have never gotten easier for me. I have heard people say they have decided to write a book and even though they don’t read romances they want to write one as they think they are the easiest to write and consider them to only have loves scenes in them. For many reasons, those statements puzzle me, the main reason is I have met few authors who found writing love scenes easy, for the large majority they are the hardest scenes to write. People may be surprised to learn, for several reasons the romance genre is one of the hardest to write, the love scenes are one of those reasons. When I read other genres, if they have love scenes in them they always disappoint me as they are so short and involve more telling than showing. I am use to the wonderful romance love scenes that are showing and beyond, filled with fire and emotion. Even a typical love scene in a romance novel is infused with an author’s expert knowledge of the craft of writing. But readers don’t need to know that, those scenes are meant for enjoyment, and to bring the readers closer to the characters, and of course to move the plot forward.

What do you have coming up next for you? Care to share any details with us?
I will soon place three of my early books directly on kindle, beginning with a revised version of Danger Is Sweet, now titled The Scottish Selkie. Also I have submitted To Love A London Ghost, a Steampunk/romance and I’m waiting to hear from the publisher on it. It’s set in Victorian London at a match factory and includes a mad scientist type villain with strange machines. The hero is a rather grumpy ghost hunter and the heroine is the ghost of an ancient Celtic warrior woman. He’s haunted by her beauty and she burns with deep desire for him, but their love is forbidden as the dead and the living dwell in separate realms. I am also working on As Timeless As Magic, a sequel to my Steampunk/ Romance, As Timeless As Stone. The book blends Steampunk technology and Egyptian magic. One of my favorite scenes in it is set at a Victorian mummy unwrapping party.

Who are some of your favorite authors, and if we were to visit your home, what books would we find on your bookshelf, end table, floor or e-reader?
My absolute favorite is Celtic/historical/paranormal novels like the ones written by Morgan Llewellyn, Jules Watson, Manda Scott, Sharon Kay Penman , and Marion Zimmer Bradley. And in steampunk, I like George Mann and Tim Powers. Some of the books on my shelves and in my Sony e-reader are The Greener Shore by Morgan Llewellyn, Priestess of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Dreaming the Hound by Manda Scott, Pillar of the Sky by Cecelia Holland, The White Mare by Jules Watson, Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman, Anubis Gates by Tim Powers and The Osiris Ritual by George Mann.

If you could be any character of any book or movie, who would, you be?
Sulwen from Druid Quest. Because she is a druid who works with Boudica during the revolt and the warrior queen is my all time favorite historical figure. I find Boudica so inspiring I would have liked to have been there when she fought the Romans. Also Sulwen has such a purpose to her life, fighting for freedom and her beliefs through spiritual means. And Sulwen is such a strong woman, she takes horribly traumatic things that have happened to her and turns them into positives.

My Personal Review for Tyler's Cowboy by Amber Kell

I got to admit...I wasn't sure what to expect with Tyler's Cowboy by Amber Kell. It was the first book I read by this 'new to me' author and I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's a character driven story that had me glued to the pages from the beginning.

The cover is what got me right off the bat. I admit...I am a bit of a cover snob. If a sexy cover catches my eye, I will pick it to see what is all about and man, who doesn't like those hot, chiseled bodies on a cover????

If you never read an Amber Kell book, I suggest you start with Tyler's Cowboy. It introduces her new series, Cowboy Lovin' and though it's a short novella, it packs quite a punch straight out of the box.

I loved how the characters of Tyler and Cody got to know one another before jumping into bed together. It was a welcome change for me to read and with a few twist I didn't anticipate, Ms. Kell does a great job in keeping her readers mesmerized.

Tyler's Cowboy is a sweet, hot story of two people finding out they are perfect for one another. If you are looking for western story that delivers more for your money, then I highly recommend this newest introduction to author Amber Kell. I am eager to check out the rest of this prolific author's backlisted and upcoming titles.

Guest Author Day with Giselle Renarde

Is My Girlfriend A Sex Dream Psychic?
By Giselle Renarde

I'm convinced my girlfriend knows when I'm about to cheat on her in my sleep.

It was Valentine's Day. My Sweet knew she'd be working in the city that the morning, so we had plans to go out for a late lunch and then back to my place for..."dessert" as they say.

Now, one thing you should know about me is that I keep very odd hours. I don't usually go to bed until 4 in the morning at the earliest, and I'll often sleep until noon. Bad, bad habit, but my body seems to like it.

Of course, my girlfriend knows what I'm like and was smart enough to give me a wake-up call. Here's the dream she interrupted:

I'm some kind of CSI-type investigator person and I'm working alongside the Spanish dude from Without a Trace (I don't remember his name). We're smooshed into a car as we check out some evidence inside it. Cramped quarters. Bodies pressed tight together, shoulder to shoulder. We're discussing the case but the sexual tension is out of this world. We turn our heads and I know it, I can feel it...we're about to kiss...

Ring ring ring ring ring!

God damn it! The phone was ringing and I had to toss off the covers and stumble to the cordless on my desk and grumble, "Hello?"

"Just wanted to make sure you're awake," she said in that super-sweet voice of hers. It was almost like she knew what she was doing. "Don't forget lunch, okay?"

Hearing Sweet's voice always makes me instantly happy, but I was still a little curious how that dream would play out. So I didn't get up. I went back to bed. I dreamed, but it was a different dream this time:

There's a girl. I don't know who she is, but she's hot: darkish skin, darkish hair, jeans and a black tank top...and massive breasts. She's in my apartment for some reason, in the kitchen with me, and she's talking about her long distance relationship, but I'm so focused on those gorgeous tits that I'm not really paying attention. I cling to her like a koala bear, wrapping my arms around her neck and my legs around her waist. She carries me over to the couch and I nuzzle my face into the curve of her neck. What would she do if I copped a feel? I think she'd be okay with it, but I'm super-nervous. I'm going to do it. I'm going to touch them. I'm just going to run my hand down her chest and...

Ring ring ring ring ring!

Oh, you have got to be kidding me! I fell out of bed, hobbled across the bedroom, and grabbed the phone. "Hello?"

"Did you go back to sleep?"

"Nnnn...yes?"

Sweet knows me far too well. "Get up. Get dressed."

So I did. Bed was tempting, but I didn't go back. As I got ready to leave the house, I kept puzzling over the impeccable timing of those two phone calls. I mean, they were spot on. Both times, she called at precisely the moment I was going to start up with somebody that wasn't her. At lunch, I told her the whole story. She claims she had no idea, but I've got to wonder. Can such uncanny timing really be coincidental, or is my girlfriend a secret sex dream psychic?

Hmmm...

Blurb:

He paid her to paint his portrait but he really wanted to steal her heart.

Hermione is an independent, single mother who has caught the eye of Philip Haughtington, society high-flyer and well known heart breaker.

He wants to seduce her and she is determined to resist but how long will she be able to hold out against his looks, charm and firm, commanding hand?

 Excerpt:

“Here we are.” Philip said as suddenly the mess of twigs gave way and an obvious clearing came to light.
“Wow.” Hermione took in the vast array of different greens and was awed by the majesty of nature. Across one side was a small pond, grey and green mingled reflected in the water and at the other end a host of bright bluebells shone out between the blades of vibrant grass.
“You didn’t lie, did you?” She smiled at him and he grinned back.
“This is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.” He sighed and stared into the vast yet stark blue sky.
“It’s very well hidden away isn’t it?”
“When I found it quite by accident as a kid I just knew I should keep it quiet and as I grew up I kept the secret because if Mum and Dad knew they’d want to tame it into the formal garden and I don’t think that’s right. This place is wild and should be kept as such.”
She completely agreed with him, such a beautiful place deserved to be preserved and as she looked him in the eye she noticed a flash of acknowledgement within them. He must have read her approval in her face.
“Yes, this place would be ruined if someone tried to run a path through it or tried to prune back the bushes.” Maybe Philip wasn’t quite the stuck-up snob she’d thought he was. And maybe she shouldn’t be so hard on him.
“So I was thinking I could sit over here.” He strode over to a large fallen tree, its roots dangling uselessly in the air like a wooden waterfall.
“Fantastic.”  The artist in Hermione took over as she directed him to sit on top of the large trunk. “Just sit on an angle a bit, no, no to the left a bit. That’s it, a bit further back.”
She tutted and walked forward towards him. She grabbed his long frame by his muscular shoulder and pushed him back, angling him to her requirements.
She’d forgotten how much her v-necked top exposed her cleavage if she wasn’t careful, and she hadn’t been careful. Looking at Philip’s face, she saw that he was blatantly ogling her chest.
She waited, staring at his eyes, hands on her hips.
He looked up.  Caught him, she thought triumphantly.
“S…Sorry.”  A blush spread across his high cheekbones but there was a sparkle in his green eyes. “I just couldn’t help myself. It looked so very inviting down there.”
Damn him. Hermione flushed and covered her bared chest with one hand before stepping back to set up her stool and to get to work.
“Don’t move an inch.” She shouted over her shoulder as she rooted through her bags and boxes for pencils and paints, when she glanced over her shoulder to check on him his gaze was fixed firmly on her arse. She’d worn the long, thick skirt as protection from this sort of thing, she’d heard rumours of his cad-like ways, but it obviously wasn’t working as even from this distance she could see the tented material in the front of his crotch. She knew she should be angry and affronted but something inside her actually felt flattered.
“You have a gorgeous arse,” he said after her attention was once again focused on her paints and brushes, “plump and juicy.”
“I beg your pardon?” Hermione snapped, “I’m not here to fulfill some seedy sexual fantasy of yours, so behave, right?” She might have been somewhat aroused by his appreciative gaze but she did not want him to know that. She had to keep this professional.Painting his portrait could be key to furthering her career. She did not want to spoil that.
“Yes, erm, Sorry,” he replied, squirming against the bark of the log, “I was just thinking aloud. I’ll shut up now.”
